What is Clean Tech?

‘Clean Tech’ covers economically viable products, technologies, processes and

services that come under the categories of:

• Renewable energy

• Low emissions technologies

• Water and wastewater reuse and treatment technologies

• Low emissions transport technologies

• Recycling and packaging technologies and systems

• Or any other that

• Harnesses renewable materials and energy sources,

• dramatically reduces the use of natural resources

• cuts or eliminates emissions and wastes.

Clean Energy Statistics

• The Carbon Price was implemented in July 2012

• A record US$243 billion was invested globally in clean energy in 2010.

• Australia’s Renewable Energy Target will deliver 20% of the country’s electricity from Renewable sources by 2020 – (10% in 2011)

• Australian Electricity prices have risen 30% over the last 4 years

• Hydropower produces enough electricity for 2.8 million average homes

• The IEA* forecasts that solar power could provide Australia with 40% of its energy in 2050

• Wind Energy contributes to 22% of total clean energy generation.

• According to Australia Clean Tech:

• 1340 Australian Clean Tech Companies generated $30 billion revenue 2012 (quarter of the entire manufacturing sector)

• Average capital transaction was $10.4 million

• 53,000 clean tech sector employees is larger than the direct employment of the automotive manufacturing industry in Australia

• Average Clean Tech employee creates 5 x revenue compared to both automotive and general manufacturing.

• Belief that extent of global growth and investment in Clean Tech is largely misunderstood in Australia but trend set to change
