PRODCOM
PRODCOM stands for PRODucts of the European COMmunity
and is a European Union (EU) wide survey of production
mainly
for the manufacturing industries and covers around 4,400
products
classified to around 250 industries. Companies selected for
PRODCOM supply value sales data for the products they
manufacture, as well as non-manufacturing income. In
addition
companies in approximately three quarters of the covered
industries supply volume sales data. All figures are now
collected
annually.
The reports contain data on the sales of UK based
manufacturers
of individual products covered by the PRODCOM inquiry, and
most contain imports and exports data supplied by Customs
&
Excise (C&E). The data for each industry are shown in a
series ofthree types of tables: Sales and Turnover, Principal
Products and
Trade and Individual Products. For further Information go to

The sample design selects businesses by employment size and
industry classification. Additional constraints are built into
the
sample design with a view to restricting the burden of form
filling
on smaller businesses. For further methodological information

Standard error estimates are also published for most product

INDUSTRY SALES AND TURNOVER
Sugar - Industry 15830This table shows the relationship between
the total sales of principal products of the industry and the total
turnover ofthe companies classified to the industry.
Companies are classified to an industry according to their main
production activity (principal products). The totalturnover of the
companies is broken down into non-production activity, split into
four main heading, Net Carry-In/Carry-Out and the Total UK
Manufacturer Sales of products within this industry.
Carry-In sales are defined as the sales of products classified
to an industry which are made by companies classifiedto other
industries. Conversely, Carry-out sales are the sales of products
classified to other industries by companiesclassified to this
industry.
