The key objectives of this project are as

follows: To develop infrastructures to manage professional skills development

awards and programmes to enhance employer and education

engagement (Year 1)

To develop a set of competences and curriculum tools that meet the

changing nature of the global fashion industry in relationship to supply

chain processes and international collaborative management and

business models (Year 2)

To develop a set of guidelines and/or handbooks that capture the

knowledge and understanding for dissemination to other training

providers in the UK and India (Year 3)

Year 1 Infrastructure to bring together the skills partners to create dialogue

and actions

Conducting a skills gap analysis to identify shortages and barriers to skills development between the UK and India, and produce a feasibility study to explore the market need for skills training frameworks and qualifications.

Conducting 3 UK and 3 India case studies to examine market leadership for global fashion supply chains, and produce a best practice employer skills publication.

Establish a Global Fashion Skills Steering Committee/Network

Creating dialogue, inform actions, and present back to the respective stakeholders or decision makers

LCF – Three Brands selected for case study : Superdry, White Stuff , Burberry & completed the secondary data analysis of the report.

PA- Three Brands selected for case study: AND, Fabindia &Wills lifestyle completed the secondary data analysis, some portion of primary data analysis of

the report.

The areas to investigate :

India & UK trade relationship, why & how to improve the business environment. Entry strategy to Indian market. Study of the 3 levels of Indian market.

UK luxury brands in the Indian market – Indentify skills gap on both sides. Strategies for Indian Luxury brands to enter the UK market. List of questions – level of standardization – adaptation- product alignment – luxury reports-map the trends & consumers.

gaps The aims of the industry roundtable was to discuss with a group of Fashion retailers &

associated companies to explore in more detail the skills gaps that are being faced in the current changing scenario.

The future challenges -that need to be addressed.

An effective tool towards achieving the goals set for this project

Bringing together employers, industrial bodies and training /education to create impact and to sustain the national and local strategic challenges in the retail sector

Issues addressed & discussed were :

Customer Engagement and customer experiences

Market intelligence to create distinct identity & able to sell right consumer

Emotional connection has to be developed with brand, this is a skill gap

Visual merchandising – the skill to approach this scientifically

Conversion rate in the store

Profile of the consumers for some brands was not clear.

Specific Identification of need gap in the retail store front end and back end of the brands were discussed

Attrition is an issue

Trainings can be standardized & self centred

SWOT analysis is required to understand the brands further

Work in progress- year -1 conti.. The findings & the industry forum :

Indicates that retail fashion brands are looking at the specialized studies to fulfill their needs for competent and knowledgeable staff.

Availability of such a workforce is limited it results in high levels of attrition rate.

Thus as planned short term refresher programmes will be added into the curriculum to fill this gap.

The fashion product being dynamic, a system of CPD training and up-gradation of skills is the final plan in the SSC.
