Which audience groups are under-represented in the figures?

When It comes to younger age groups buying DVD’s the figure has the potential to be very misleading, this is because Parents of younger children are more likely to pay for DVD’s as they may not be of age or simply don’t have the money.

Where/how do people watch films?

What this table is telling us is that the over 3 quarters (77%) of films that are watched in the UK are consumed via television, whereas as little as 3.4% are watched at the cinema. I think this is because there is a cost to go to the cinema but there isn’t to watch it on the TV. Also most households have access to a television so the accessibility is much higher, whereas people have to travel to the cinema.

What role does technology play in the consumption of film today?

I think that film consumption really revolves around technology, Technology has a massive role in film consumption as it makes it easier and more efficient. As you can see from the research I underwent 77% of films are consumed via television. I think this is because people don’t have to put that much effort into finding entertaining films, they can just turn on there television are find a film which satisfies their needs. Technology is used to make film consumption easier, that way more people can enjoy films.

Which audience groups are the most lucrative?

I think that 15-24 age gap would be the most lucrative, this is because this age group are the most likely to go to the cinema out of any other (looking at slide #3). This makes this age group the more lucrative as the cinema is an expensive way to watch films, also this age group are likely to still be living at home and getting money of their parents to fund there social lives.

What strategies you should use to promote your films?

First of all I would find out what type of audience are likely to watch my film are target them, this can be decided on age, race, culture and sexuality. This means that I can use a method which my audience are familiar with, for example I was to target teenagers I would use social media websites such as Facebook and YouTube as they are popular with this age group.

The importance of technology now and in the future?

Technology is very important in todays society, everyone is effected by technology in the way they do there job, travel or in the spare time. I only think that the use of technology will grow over time, and things which we originally didn’t use to use digital technology for will be affected by media. An example of this would be the growth in E-books over the last few years.
