Asacknowledged experts in the field of Defence and Aerospace EMCtesting, we regularly perform tests to many standards includingDef Stan 59-41, Def Stan 59-411, EFA, ABD standards, AMD24C,D6-36440, Panavia, Mil Std 461A/B/C/D/E. RTCA/DO-160C/D/E/F in our 7 state-of-the-art test chambers. In addition we have thecapability to perform RS105 and HERO tests (HazardsElectromagnetic Radiation to Ordnance).

We have considerable experience in developing cost-effectivesolutions to real EMC problems in all manner of environments;and our on-going DCSA contract – from the MOD – has reinforcedour position as a leading provider of EMC testing and consultancyin the UK. A major expansion programme during 2007/08 coupledwith significant investment in test equipment has further enhancedour capability. This includes 2 additional large anechoically-linedchamber for vehicles and large systems. These additional testchambers, along with extended test hours, allows AQL EMC Ltdthe ability to offer parallel testing on systems so reducing testtime and customer overheads. This includes a unique45Hz-850Hz/0-600V (50kVA) programmable supply for allowingall the requirements of the ABD and AMD 24C requirements to bemet, even on large systems.

Our specialist facilities are already able to perform radiatedsusceptibility from DC to 40GHz at HIRF levels and furtherfrequencies are now available giving a maximum field of22kV/m @ 1m, using portable test equipment. This facility is inaddition to our mode tuned / reverberation test chamber (maximumfield 6kV/m).

Our Lightning capabilities include single stroke/pin injection andalso multiple stroke/multiple burst test techniques. This is furtherenhanced by the flexibility to perform tests using modifiedwaveforms if required. All these services are available at ourFerndown Site.

Recent improvements have been made to our mobile attenuationtest systems allowing fully swept or automated measurements(10kHz-40GHz) to be performed on both large and smallenclosures. As a privately-owned company, we offer a trulyprofessional and flexible service when performing pre-compliancetests to assess and solve EMC problems and full system tests onlarge, complicated test systems.

Rohde & Schwarz’s ESU family of fully compliant EMI testreceivers, meet all civil and military standards forelectromagnetic interference measurements. The R&S ESU also features automatic andinteractive measurement functions, real-time IF analysis andparallel detectors including the new CISPR-RMS detector.

Additionally, Rohde & Schwarz has a new CISPR 16-1-1compliant EMI test receiver for the frequency range from 9kHz to 7 GHz. The R&S ESCI7 already meets therequirements of the current edition of the CISPR 22/EN 55022standard for information technology equipment, which willbe valid from 2010. Like all EMI test receivers from Rohde& Schwarz, the R&S ESCI7 features an integrated spectrumanalyzer.

Rohde & Schwarz has also recently developed its first familyof broadband amplifiers. The company leveraged its extensiveexpertise as a broadcast transmitter manufacturer to designthe new product line. As a result, the R&S BBA100 is themost flexible and advanced broadband amplifier system onthe market.

Company ProfileTMD first began developing its range of compact, lightweightbroadband instrumentation amplifiers for EMC testing,scientific and medical applications in the 1990s - an activitywhich grew from TMD’s strength in high power military radaramplifiers.

TMD’s instrumentation amplifiers cover the range 1 – 40GHz at up to 500 W CW and 40 kW pulsed, and have gaineda worldwide reputation for design innovation, offering manyunusual and unique products. Changing EMC testingregulations continue to offer many new technical challengeswhich we have to meet. For example there is a growing needfor the microwave amplifiers used in HIRF testing to delivermore than 7 kW pulsed at L-band frequencies, in order toachieve the necessary field strength requirements.

This is a technically challenging area for amplifier design inwhich TMD has succeeded. In 2002 TMD had alreadysuccessfully developed the PTC7030, a very special highpulse power amplifier which could deliver a minimum of 20kW from 1.1-1.5 GHz. This was for a specific programmerun by the Swedish National Testing and Research Institutefor susceptibility testing of vehicles - emulating the conditionsgenerated by high power L-band airport surveillance radars.The PTC7030 has recently been further developed to provide30 kW at 2% duty.

Through a continual process of new product introduction,TMD has now extended this capability with four new compactlightweight amplifiers, PTC6704, PTC6303, PTC7357 andPTC7030 which together achieve a minimum of 9 kW; anda maximum of 30 kW pulsed between 1.0 and 11.0 GHz. Allnew models are featured on the TMD website as they becomeavailable.

TMD is pleased to be working with antenna experts Q-parAngus Ltd and BONN Elektronik GmbH who specialise inRF amplifiers below 1 GHz. With their expertise and highquality products; horn antennas, reflectors, microwave andRF amplifiers, we are able to provide more extensive sub-system solutions for our customers worldwide, which nowincludes power combining to achieve the highest power levels.
