Welcome - Chairman’s IntroductionI would like to welcome you to our Annual Review for 2009/10. The past year has been one full ofchallenges and opportunities but our aim throughout has remained the same - to provide excellentpatient care through learning and discovery, and to be the first choice for people in Coventry,Warwickshire and beyond.

Our mission and pledge to our entire population is to “Care, Achieve, Innovate” which supportsthe NHS Constitution. In the past 12 months we have:

pregnancy, an area in which we are alreadyone of the world leaders.

Our hard work has been recognised nationallyby the Healthcare Commission, who rated ourquality of services and use of resources ‘good’for the second year running. We are alsocontinuing to meet two week cancer waitingtimes and have worked hard to further reduceinstances of MRSA and C-Difficile.

This puts us on a very firm footing as we moveonwards with our application to become aFoundation Trust. This year we completed a 12week public consultation on our FoundationTrust plans which was a huge success. Inaddition, our membership is flourishing andwe have already recruited over 5,000 publicmembers and 8,000 staff members who aresupporting our Foundation Trust plans.

In 2009 we launched Staff Impressions, ourown local staff survey, which gave all staff, volunteers and contractors the opportunity tofeedback on the Trust.

We were pleased to see that 85% of surveyrespondents indicated that they had a mainlygood impression of the Trust and 78% ofrespondents stated they would recommendthe Trust as a place to work.

We have maintained our status as a Two TicksDisability Symbol User following an annualassessment by Job Centre Plus in February2009. This review demonstrated our positivepractices towards people with disabilities.

1We Care. We Achieve. We Innovate.

We were first established as a Trust in 1992, expanded to include Rugby in 1998 and form part ofWest Midlands Strategic Health Authority (SHA).

The Trust has continued to strive for improvements in infection control and in 2009/10 has exceeded its targets to reduce MRSA and C. difficile rates.

For the second consecutive year the Trusthas improved performance against the A&E 4 hour wait target, which remains a key priority for the Trust.

The Trust has improved performance against the cancelled operations target and it is predicted the Trust will achieve this target in 2009/10.
