Sport Club Program New Club Proposal and Overview Purpose of Sport Club Proposal The purpose of this document is provide a “roadmap” for a current recognized student organization (RSO) to plan for a possible transition to become a recognized Sport Club under the administrative oversight of the Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness. Sport Clubs are foundationally a Registered Student Organization and are required to complete all processes, paperwork, and attend all required meetings or training scheduled by the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership. This document should serve student organizations in preparing documentation, clarifying officer positions and leadership transitions, creating short-term and long-term goals, establishing a realistic expectation related to budget needs and annual costs, development of marketing strategies to promote the club, and develop a foundation of risk management practices. While completing this document, please understand that the decision to add a new club to the UHCL Sport Club Program is not guaranteed. Regardless of the activity or sport, many factors will be taken into account. The first is related to the overall mission and purpose of the Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness. Any new club must drive our department’s mission and vision forward for providing a healthier and happier campus. Decisions for adding new clubs will involve multiple officer meetings with Student Involvement and Leadership, Campus Recreation and Wellness administration, formal presentations to Campus Recreation and Wellness Administration and the Campus Recreation Advisory Board (CRAB), and input from our current sport club officers. This process could take multiple weeks or months. Basic Requirements to become a Recognized Sport Club: The club MUST be student-initiated and student-driven. An organization must be a recognized student organization for a minimum of one year and complete the Student Organization recognition process for a second year before it may apply to join the UHCL Sport Club Program. The Student Organization must have at least 10 active members The organization must be in good standing with the Student Involvement and Leadership office. All documentation has been submitted for review to Campus Recreation and Wellness administration. Factors that will also be considered: Required facilities and equipment. The impact the proposed activity will have on existing open recreation, intramural sports, and other sport clubs. The availability of the financial resources to start and adequately fund the proposed activity. The opportunities to compete on a local, regional, national level. The ability to attract new members on a yearly basis. Sufficient student interest and level of leadership to create a self-sustaining organization.
