We are UrbanFarmers
As our motto Good food from the roof sug-
gests, it is our mission is to grow local food in
the city, for the city with our eco-sustainable ap-
proach.
Our production technology is based on the
tried and true application of Aquaponics:
through the symbiosis of aquaculture and
plants, we connect the natural nutrients in
the water to a closed-loop water system, growing
organic, healthy, and fresh fish and vegetables.
Our UrbanFarms sit on flat rooftops and
vacant urban spaces in the city Urban Farming
as a practical and efficient way to utilize empty
spaces for food production in 21st Century cities.
UrbanFarmers was recently awarded The Hub
Zurichs WWF Fellowship 2011, as well as the
Swisscanto Prix Nature Generation Zukunft, 2011.

if required. It fits neatly on vacant parking lots,
in-between urban spaces, private back-yards or
even on your own flat rooftop.Inside the 5-meter-high
UrbanFarmers BOX,
proud urban farmers can now grow up to 60kg
of fish and 200kg of vegetables throughout the
summer months enough to feed a whole family.
The interior of the UrbanFarmers BOX comes
fully-equipped with the UrbanFarmers Aquapo-
nic Technology System. Included in the package
is an operating manual, as well as maintenance
and support from the UrbanFarmers team.
The UrbanFarmers BOX is the Schrebergarten
2.0, a 21st Century incarnation of the Schre-
bergarten, or garden allotment. Inspired by the
container-based concepts of a French Designer,we have developed
the UrbanFarmers BOX as a
DO-IT-YOURSELF system for growing fresh fish
and vegetables in the city.
The BOXs modular design is based on a
greenhouse equipped with an Aquaponic pro-
duction system, and is mounted on a used, 20-
foot open-top Cargo container. Although the
combined construction weighs over 3.5 tons,
its modular design means it is highly mobile
