Tr ick Ho. 1 Watch Jleejub:^, ''C^ Q-fc
Any three people take ordinary watches t o a f a r corner and set them at any hour, minute and second d s s i r s d , then s e a l them in s s a l l boxes . These are hung or p la ced anyplace and ycu can t e l l the exact hour, minute and second on each one,
Lika a l l good t r i c k s the method i s simple and depends on a c l ever dodge and th one ahead principle* . When you introduce the t r i c k you have any three step forward . You require f o u r watches, a l l alike*,, the cheap toy type with moving hands are 03X One o f these watches i s a l -ready set we w i l l say at rt3?22f- and sealed in one o f the boxes . This should have some secre t mark on it. BO you can d i s t i n g u i s h i t from the other three boxes . In t h i s prepared 'box have a s l i p with the name "George Erusso" on i t How you have the other three boxes and a s i . p f o r each one handy 0 Have three step f or war dan d give each one a box, s l i p and watch. They go t o a f a r corner or in another room, set t h e i r watch and sign t h e i r name t o t h e i r s l i p and p lace or s ea l t h e i r watch and s l i p with name on in t h e i r bos , While they are doing th i s you p a t t e r along to the e f f e c t that you gave a t e s t performance t h i s a f t e r -noon be f o re a p r i v a t e gather ing , and one o f the men, a "Mr. Brusso" , set a watch and sealed i t in advance and sent i t over here t h i s evening along with a sealed l e t t e r g iv ing the hour he set the watch a t . and you w i l l endeavor t o read that along with the other three now being s e t .
How the other three ccme back with t h e i r sealed boxes and these are p laced in a large bowl or hat along with the p lanted one and mixed up a b i t , saying the reason f o r t h i s i s to show that you do not have t o read any s p e c i a l one f i r s t , or know in advance which persons watch i s in which box. ?or a more spectacu lar performance I suggest you have a large cardboard c l o c k with movable hands. I f n o t . use a large s la te with a d i a l drawn on and with your p r e d i c t i o n each t ime, draw in the hands t o show c o r r e c t time e t c . '.7e w i l l say you have a large c l o c k f a c e .
Walk over and p i c k up t ray or item watches are i n , p i c k one of the boxes , being sure n o t to take the faked one. Hold the box above your head and pretend to concentrate , then walk over to c l o c k and set the hands at " 3 ; 2 2 " . D e l i b e r a t e l y open the box t o apparently see who se t t h e i r watch at t h i s t ime, and r e g a r d l e s s o f who 's i t i s , you mis-read and read o f f "George Brusso'% at the same time make a mental note of name on s l i p and time watch i s se t a t . How have the man h o l d -ing the sealed envelope tear open same and see i f your p r e d i c t i o n i . c o r r e c t , which he v e r i f y s .

How, unknown to tha nridienco .you are one ahead of thero, eh and nsme j u s t opened i s p l a c c d in a hat or bowl. P i els: up another? being sure i t i s not thfc planted one and hold above the head and p.i*Q tend t o d iscern i t s coat sat a end sat c l o c k as be fore only set i t at the time ind i cated by the one j u s t opened,, supposedly the Er e Brus30 one. Then opsn t h i s package and the commit teem on v e r i f y s h i s name and that you have c o r r e c t l y es t the large c l o c k t o correspond with h is s e t -t i n g , This i s repeated with the remaining two and each tiraa as each watch and s l i p i s removed i t i s p laced in the large bowl or hat , thus at the f i n i s h anyone may check the c l o c k s and s l i p s .
You w i l l f i n d with proper showmanship and handling t h i s i s one of the s trongest t e s t s ever presented and most convincing and f o o l - f r o o f , as everything i s unprepared.
I f . . Y c u are working where you are no t o f f e r i n g a reward t o the e f f e c t you use no c o n f e d e r a t e s , you m y have a p lant in the audience to step up with any two and he se t s h i s watch to the time you have already arranged with him. This way you get to use the one ahead wi th -out a fourth person and watch set by the apparent Mr. Brusso.
For boxes t o seal watches i n , I suggest you buy 4 n i c e v e l v e t covered watch boxes from a Jeweler ,

Tr ick Fo . 2 Cards & Boards Test
Any number of sea led decks that have never been opened are given t o committeej. they s e l e c t any deck, break sea l s and s h u f f l e same and remove any ton cords and sea l them'between two boards and you are able to name the ten cards .
This i s a banner e f f e c t in card magic and one they w i l l remember. The manner of f i n d i n g out the cards i s very natural and never n o t i c e d , and a method not used in general card magic.
In your lower r i g h t vest pocket you have a deck of cards which i s short any ten cards and i s no t In the ores,, On the tab le you have ten complete decks that have nsvsr been opened and with the same back d e s -ign as the deck in your pockety Have the committee step forward and go into a corner or any near by ant i rocm. They p i c k any deck and s h u f f l e i t as much as they l i k e and hand deck to you behind your back0 You stand with your back towards them. They p i c k any ten cards out of the deck and as soon as they do you br ing the deck to your f r o n t while they take paper and p e n c i l and wri te down the names of the ten cards . While they do t h i s and with your back s t i l l turned, you have ample time to s l i p the deck in an empty v e s t pocket and p u l l out the d u p l i -cate deck0 Then caution them to hide t h e i r cards . You turn and hand them the deck and t e l l them to s t i c k the ten cards in anyplace and p l a c e the deck in case and anyone p l a c e s t h i s in t h e i r p o c k e t . You leave the room while they n a i l the ten cards between the boards . I was wrong above, they do NOT put the ten cards back in the deck, they keep them out . While out of the room 7/ou run through the deck and deal i t into f o u r p i l e s 9 one p i l e f o r each s u i t , and when you are f i n -ished you can e&si ly see which ten cards are missing and write them down on a pad.
Now you walk back to t h e i r room and gaze at the board and pretend to concentrate , take out the pad and pretend to wr i te down the ten cards that are a l ready wr i t ten down9 unknown t o them. When they check your l i s t , they f i n d that you are c o r r e c t . Anyone e l s e opens boards and v e r i f y s the cards aga ins t both s l i p s .
And there you have a wonderful e f f e c t , one they w i l l remember and t a l k about and a l l without p r a c t i c e or s l e i g h t s and much greater than the usual run of the m i l l card t r i c k s .
Now f o r a v a r i a t i o n I w i l l g ive you another method; In t h i s method you have to open decks in advance and stack them, then r e s e a l them. Have h a l f of the decks red backs and the other hal f blue backs,, You know the top ten cards o f each deck , as top ten cards of every deer, are the same, you s tack them that way. The beauty of t h i s method i s
Page 8 . _ Cards & Boards Test B r a i n B u s t e r s
that you never touch the decks or go anywhere near them.
The committee goes t o the room and takes two decks , one red and one b lue , the i r own s e l e c t i o n . How any one o f them that i s used t o handling cards opens the two decks and r i f f l e s h u f f l e s the two decks t oge ther . Ifow they dec ide on e i t h e r c o l o r . You never know which c o l o r they decide on. They take the top ten cards they come to of that c o l o r and these are the cards they note and seal,- e t c . , and you are l a t e r able t o name the cards . Unknown to them, the mere ac t i on of s h u f f l i n g ( r i f f l e s h u f f l i n g ) the two decks together does n o t d i s -arrange the order of each deck by i t s e l f . On top of that,- they are of the opinion that the decks have never been opened.
Here i s another method, using just one deck and the r i f f l e s h u f f l e p r i n c l e . Have the middle 20 cards of the deck stacked so that you know what they are . Then have person take and break the s e a l on the deck and open i t , then deal the top 26 cards onto the t a b l e , f a c e do.m, one at a t ime . Then turn t h i s stack face up and s h u f f l e i t in to the remaining f a c e down s tack . In other words the twot halves are r i f f l e s h u f f l e d f a c e t o f a c e , so h a l f are one way and half the other way. How, they hold the deck e i t h e r way and run through i t and remove the f i r s t ten f a c e down cards they ccme t o . You w i l l merely have to know which se c t i on they want and you w i l l know the ten cards-.

Several drinking g l a s s e s , unprepared, . 0They s e l e c t any one and pour water in same and tast i t , They s e l e c t anyone to take out a "bi l l and sea l i t in a heavy "brown manila envelopep such as a pay en-ve lope . How anyone gases in the g lass o f water and is able to give the s e r i a l numbers on the b i l l . The g l a s s i s again examined.
tfirst o f a l l , envelope b i l l i s sealed in i s faked . This i s p r e -pared as f o l l o w s , Take one and cut o f f the back o f same, so just the f r o n t par t with f l a p on i s l e f t , How s l i d e t h i s down ins ide an unpre-pared one, so the two f l a p s are. such that one i s behind the o ther . How, between the wal l s o f t h i s envelops?, or in other words between the s e c t i o n s that f l a p s are ony p l a c e a b i l l that you know the s e r i a l num-ber o f . Then moisten the f l a p o f the rear one and s t i c k i t to f r o n t f l a p . You now have an envelope with b i l l in that appears empty and unprepared. Also required i s a c e l l u l o i d d i s c that i s same s i ze as bottom o f a g lass of water . How with b l a c k India ink l e t t e r on t h i s c e l l u l o i d near one edge the s e r i a l numbers that are on the b i l l ins ide the double envelope .
How you w i l l d i s c o v e r that i f t h i s d i s c i s p laced on bottom of a g lass and glass i s about h a l f f u l l o f water ( use about an 3 ounce s h e l l g lass ) Have g lass s i t t i n g on d i s c so that the numbers are at the outer edge, i f person stands t o r e a r of g lass and gases thru the s ide of the g lass ( not down in top ) down into v;ater, they w i l l see jus t the numbers, apparent ly mid way in the water, making a most ghost ly e f f e c t . Have d i s c in p o c k e t , handy f o r you to s t e a l at the proper t ime.
Have committee s t e p forward and have them p ick a man from the audience. You step down to him and hand him a pay envelope and t e l l him to take out a d o l l a r b i l l , not t o o o l d , not too new. This i s so i t w i l l match your planted one. Have him seal i t in the envelope and step up on stage and hold i t high in the a i r . Stress the po int that he does a l l , you never touch i t . How have committee s e l e c t g l a s s , pour water in and t a s t e i t e t c . Then s e c r e t l y get d i s c in hand and p l a c e g lass of water on palm of hand so i t covers the d i s c . How any-one steps over and gazes in g lass and c a l l s out numbers, as he does another one w r i t e s them down on a large blackboard s so a l l can see aid v e r i f y them.
How rep lace g lass on t a b l e , keeping the d i s c in the hand. Then anyone p i c k s up g l a s s and drinks the water to prove no chemicals were used. D e l i b e r a t l y walk ox^er and take envelope and with sharp po inted

kn i fe 7 r i p small sec t ion of the f r o n t of envelope , so b i l l shows a b i t r hand envelope back t o the man, mentioning that you do not want t o handle the b i l l , so no t r i c k e r y can be worked,, have him r i p the started t ear , and remove the b i l l and to read o f f the numbers on HIS b i l l and they correspond with the cnea the man saw in the g lass of wat er *
That, my f r i e n d s , from the audience po int of view is MAGIC* You w i l l d i s cover that you can l e t them seal b i l l in envelope and tear i t a f t e r you s t a r t the tear and do so s a f e l y , t h i s i s the s trong po in t of the t r i c k .

By U.P. Grant Tr ick No. 4 $500 l e t t e r Reading Tse"
This I can t r u l y say i s the "best mental t e s t idea I have ever developed. The l a s t word in l iystery and t e s t has proven i t so
F i r s t you requ ire a large g lass f i s h bowl and prepare th i s by cut t ing out a p i e c e o f clt^.r c e l l u l o i d ( or g lass i f pre fered ) so i t f i t s across the center of bowl and d i v i d e s i t in two s e c t i o n s , as pes* sketch on next page. Also have some p l a i n envelopes , p la in white cards that f i t enve lopes , p e n c i l s and you are a l l s e t , f o r that p a r t . 'Ve w i l l say you are go ing to pass out 20 cards , b e f o r e the show writ on SO cards a message, f o r example " I bet you do not get t h i s one" and sea l these in enve lopes } same message in each enve lope . Have these 20 l e t t e r s in lower l e f t ves t p o c k e t . You are now a l l s e t .
Pass out the o thers and t e l l them to wr i te any message they des -i r e and sea l in enve lope . Not t o sign t h e i r name, as most people in an audience do not l i k e t o have t h e i r names c a l l e d out . You step in to audience and c o l l e c t them, in a neat stackin the r i g h t hand, hold r i g h t hand high above the head, as you back up to the l e f t s ide of the stage.. Just as you get t o the top step t o walk over a c ross s t a g e , the two hands come together t o hold enve lopes . Previous to that your l e f t haid s t o l e the 20 dummys out o f the vest p o c k e t . The two stacks are held together as one, with l i t t l e f i n g e r of l e f t hand ho ld ing a break between them. How as you drop them in the bowl , the o r i g i n a l s go to the f r o n t p a r t i t i o n and fakes to back p a r t i t i o n . A l l are in f u l l view and shaken up.
Now p i c k up bowl and hold i t high and have three step forward. Lach one reaches in the bowl and takes out an enve lope . But hold the bowl so that they have t o take from the s ide your l e t t e r s are i n . This i s very s imple , by ho ld ing bowl high, so apparently they cant see what they are tak ing , keeps t h e i r hand from g e t t i n g to center of bowl t o touch the p a r t i t i o n . Audience dec ides which l e t t e r i s to be used , other two are tossed back in bowl . Person with s e l e c t e d one goes t o f a r end o f s tage and you t e l l what i s in same. " I bet you do not get t h i s o n e . " He tears i t open and v e r i f y s you are c o r r e o t .
S t i l l another v a r i a t i o n of the f i n a l e f f e c t i s to have two men and a g i r l step forward. Have men get t h e i r s l i p s from unprepared s e c -t i on of bowl with genuine l e t t e r s in and g i r l ge t s f o r c e d one, t h i s you do e a s i l y , as you p i c k bowl up t o carry over to her e t o . Now the three l e t t e r s have been drawn. Then have a f our th person step forward. The g i r l you have picked to take out the faked l e t t e r should be a p r e -t t y one. This f our th man you have s tep forward should be yound and the type that u s u a l l y goes f o r g i r l s , f l a s h y dresses e t c . Now you say
Page 2 _ l e t t e r Reading Test Brain Busters
t o him, "7fe have two men a g i r l , which do you want?" He w i l l p i ck the g i r l . So you hav; the two men open t h e i r l e t t e r s sad road them out aid have them v e r i f i e d by the w r i t e r s . Then you read the g i r l s , be fore i t i s opened,
I:; the yeunt, man do-ss not s e l e c t the g i r l , you f a l l back on the Magicians choice* I f he p i c k s one o f tiie men, you have that man step asiae* he takes e i t h e r the remaining man or the g i r l . I f he s e l e c t s other man, have him step as ide and that leaves the g i r l . Or i f the g i r l , say, a l r i g h t , we w i l l use the g i r l .
And thus you have a l e t t e r reading t e s t that i s second t o none, i f presented in a hal f way decent manner0
