In February 2013, he was appointedby Olympiacos, taking over from UEFA EURO 2004-winning goalkeeper Antonis Nikopolidis, who had stepped in asinterim coach a month earlier when the Piraeus club fired Leonardo Jardim.

They were well on their way to their 40th league title, though, the first of Míchel's coaching career, while they also secured the domestic double by beating Asteras Tripolis FC in the Greek Cup final. Another leaguetitle, the club's fourth in succession, followed in 2013/14.
