Welcome Address Presidential Address

S.Sathesh Kumar , DD In-Charge, DI, Coimbatore Shri KRK Prasad, Director, MSME-DI, Chennai

Shri S.Sathesh kumar, Deputy Director

and Head of Branch MSME DI,

Coimbatore welcomed the dignitaries

and the participants. He expressed his

gratitude to the PSUs, Government

departments, industry partners of the

region and the participants for their

support to make the event a purposeful

one. He was all praise for CODISSIA,

the premier association for MSMEs in

the Coimbatore region. CODISSIA was

democratic, liberal and supportive for

the efforts of Branch MSME DI in the

service of MSMEs. Indigenization was

the core theme of CODISSIA and they

were truly instrumental in bringing the

defence corridor to Coimbatore. He

urged the participants to reap the

benefits of the event to identify newer

opportunities for diversification and

brighter market opportunities. He

implored that the participants should

make best use of the presence of

officials from various PSUs at the event

to learn and clear their doubts about

the opportunities and procedures to

explore new avenues of products and

market

Shri KRK Prasad, Director, MSME

Development Institute, Chennai, in his

keynote address gave a brief account of

the origin of UDYAM SAMAAGAM and

its avowed purpose. An integrated

effort of the umbrella organizations of

the Ministry of MSME to reach out to

the MSMEs was the main objective of

the event. He also highlighted the

recent announcement of the Hon’ble

Prime Minister about the increase in

the percentage of the mandatory

procurement from MSMEs by CPSUs

from 20 to 25%, out of which 5% was

to be made compulsorily from SC/ST

entrepreneurs and 3% from Women

entrepreneurs. The benefits of the

Sammandh and Samaadhaan portals

should be grabbed by the MSMEs. He

brought to the fore the fact that

Tamilnadu was the biggest beneficiary

of MSE Cluster Development

Programme by establishing 23 Common

Facility Centres. 15 such centres were

in the process of implementation and

10 had obtained in-principle approval.

Chief Guest Address

Shri R.Ramamurthy, President, CODISSIA

Shri R.Ramamurthy, President of CODISSIA, who was the Chief Guest for the

inaugural function of the event said that CODISSIA was in general working

towards providing livelihood for the people and the economy of the country.

Exports were on the rise despite many hurdles. MSMEs were striving in the

stormy environment also. Of late, there has been an increased focus from the

Government and the financial institutions on the MSMEs, which was a

welcome step. The impetus of the MSME sector will certainly have an impact

on the society, though many constraints were hindering the growth of the

sector. The inadequacies in many fronts were a threat to the MSMEs. The

industry, Government and the academia had to work together for the

betterment of the MSME environment. There should be a time bound exit

mechanism for the entrepreneurs.

CODISSIA had come a long journey and was in the golden jubilee year of

its existence. They had facilities equivalent to the Pragati Maidan at New

Delhi for conducting international trade and industrial exhibitions. It was a

pride and privilege that the Government paid heed to the needs of the MSMEs

and various problems were being addressed. The long pending request for a

reservation of 5% for micro enterprises as a purchase preference is expected

to be implemented soon. Banks and financial institutions should be prudent

to take the risk of financing the MSMEs. In the next 10 years, a perfect

ecosystem will be in place in Coimbatore which will be the hub for defence

production.

He felt that the UDYAM SAMAAGAM at Coimbatore was the right most

B2B contact and will offer convenient business opportunities. All the MSMEs

and participants should reap the benefit the event.

Guest of Honour

Shri P V Murali Kiishna CWM, Railways Shri V.Mathivanan, JGM, OCF, Defence

Shri P.V.Murali Krishna, Chief

Works Manager, Signal and

Telecommunication Workshop,

Southern Railway, Coimbatore

in his address explained the

Workshop at Podanur and the

details of the products

manufactured there. The point

machine which was a major

item for the operation of the

trains had 127 components.

Though most of the

components were

manufactured in-house by the

railways, the support of the

MSMEs was necessary for a

large scale production to

match the requirement. He

invited the industry partners

to associate with the Railways

to manufacture these products.

Shri V.Mathivanan, Joint

General Manager, Ordnance

Clothing Factory, Ministry

of Defence, Chennai, said

that the OCF at Chennai

was started in the year

1801. There were 41

factories across the

country and among these 6

were in Tamilnadu. OCFs

were manufacturing

clothing, winter gear and

parachute for the defence

forces. Due to shortage of

manpower in its own

factories, the OCFs were

outsourcing these services

to MSMEs. OCFs were

looking forward to the

MSMEs to support them

thereby enhancing their

own marketability.

Guest of Honour

Shri R. Kannan, GM, DIC, Coimbatore Shri Chakravarthy, AGM, Canara Bank

Shri R.Kannan, General Manager,

District Industries Centre,

Coimbatore in his address to the

participants opined that technology

should be obsolete. UDYAM

SAMAAGAM will provide the right

opportunity for transfer of newer

technologies. Government of India

was aware of the importance of the

MSMEs and was reaching out to the

MSMEs through such events. MSME s

contributed 40% of the exports in the

country, 69% of the employment, and

8% of the GDP. MSMEs were the

fulcrum for the economy of the

country. The tradition and dynasty

of Tamilnadu had warranted the

Government of India to establish the

Defence Corridor project in the

Coimbatore region. Quoting

Bharathiar and Thiruvalluvar, he said

market strategy was important for

any business. The event was a golden

opportunity for interaction with

officials concerned for sourcing

information to enhance the market of

the MSMEs.

Shri Chakravarthy,

Assistant General Manager,

Canara Bank, Coimbatore

stressed the fact that

Coimbatore was one of the

fewer places in India

housing a large number of

first generation

entrepreneurs. He

presented broader details

of the financial schemes

available with the banks for

MSMEs. Canara Bank had

lent more than Rs.2000

crore to finance the

MSMEs in Coimbatore

region. He impressed upon

the MSMEs to avail the

MSME Restructuring

Scheme.
