• “Global Warming” is a word often studied at school, read in books or heard on TV… but what does the term mean exactly?

Global Warming

• When the solar energy travels through the Earth’s atmosphere, several gases trap it, in particular water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane and ozone, which, while absorbing the energy from the sun, prevent the heat from escaping back into space.

What happensThough only some energy passes back into space, most of it remains trapped in the atmosphere and causes the Earth’s heating.

The Greenhouse effect• These gases are known as GREENHOUSE

GASES and their natural process is to maintain the Earth’s average temperature warm enough, making life on the globe possible. This is the GREENHOUSE EFFECT, which works exactly as a greenhouse.

CAUSES OF GLOBAL WARMING• The main causes of global warming involve

human activities like: burning fossil fuels, cutting down and burning trees, etc.

Clorofluorocarbons• Such activities generate a lot of carbon dioxide, which causes the imbalance of the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The use of hairsprays, fridges and plastic materials produce dangerous gases, called... CHLOROFLUOROCARBONS!

CONSEQUENCES

• Global warming has negative effects on…• WEATHER!!• AGRICULTURE!!• SEA LEVELS!!• PLANTS AND ANIMALS!!• PEOPLE!!

WEATHER:Global warming can change the amount of rainfall on earth with more and more frequent floods.

FARMING• Extreme climate changes and hot

temperatures can also cause the desertification of the land; consequently farming becomes impossible.

SEA LEVELS:• Increase in temperature is causing the melting

of glaciers, which are, though slowly, progressively increasing water sea levels, with the inevitable submersion of lands!

PLANTS AND ANIMALS:• Due to the temperature increase, many plants

and animals will be no longer able to survive, so many species will rapidly become extinct!

PEOPLE:

• Because of these inevitable climate changes, also our lives will be radically transformed. Let’s do something now! Preservation means survival. The life of our planet is our life, too.
