Moving from the web to a mobile-first world*• Smart devices have fundamentally changed how

people interact with the world.

• In 2011 according to IBM 18.3 % of all online sessions on retailers site on Christmas were initiated from a mobile device, compared to 8.4 percent in 2010.

• Google research: 70% of consumers use their smartphones while in a store.

• The beauty of thinking about “mobile first” is that you get to use the latest in browsers, forget about backward compatibility and at the same time are able to deploy the newest technologies and hacks.

• What it all boils down to is the fact that enterprises, businesses, retailers and publishers are indeed going mobile first.

Mobile at UCSF• Previously: Our first report identified silos,

uncoordinated efforts, and no strategy.

• Current State: Mobile IT Governance Committee, UCSF Mobile Working Group, Committee on Educational Technology and the mHealth Innovation Forum all working across UCSF to coordinate development and functions and create UCSF’s mobile strategy. mHealth team is working with Silicon Valley partners to expand the breadth and depth of resources available to UCSF.

• Future: Mobile technology is a growth sector. Being a leader requires investment and remaining a leader requires vision.

“See the future get there first.”
