What is Little I?

The Little International Livestock Show, or Little “I”, is UConn’s version of the International Livestock show. As a grade for the Introduction to Animal Science class, students are assigned an animal from the species of their choice and then learn how to show it. For two months, they train and fit their animals so they look their best on show day. The Little “I” is hosted by the UConn Block and Bridle Club and the Department of Animal Science and made possible by all of our sponsors and dedicated members.

Enjoy the show!

Greetings From the Block & Bridle Club President Aloha and Welcome to 85th Annual Little I Livestock Show!

Today serves as the acme of so much hard work and dedication. For our exhibitors, it means putting months of training and relationship building to the test with their animals in the show ring. For the members of Block and Bridle and the UConn Animal Science Department, it means enjoying the day in which so much planning and preparation went into. I would like to first extend a huge thank you for all who made today possible – your support and generosity helped make this day a success. I would also like to congratulate everyone showing today, your hard work has finally paid off! On behalf of all of the chairpersons and herdsmen, we have enjoyed having this opportunity to get to know you all and watch you grow in preparation for today. We will keep a seat open for any of you who would like to maintain a relationship with Block and Bridle and want to enjoy more time with the livestock in the future. Along with the entire Block and Bridle Club, I wish everyone here good luck and thank you again for joining us! Emma Lawlor Block & Bridle President

Guest of Distinction

The UConn Block & Bridle Club would like to honor Dr. Thomas Hoagland

as our 2014 Guest of Distinction. Dr. Hoagland has been an Animal Science professor at UConn for 34 years, teaching a variety of classes that focus on livestock production. He received an Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1969 from Northeastern University then enrolled at UConn to earn both a Bachelor’s Degree (1973) and Master’s Degree (1975) in Animal Science. He later earned his Ph.D in Animal Breeding from Oklahoma State University in 1980. Inspired by one of his professors from UConn, Dr. Donald Kinsman, Dr. Hoagland took a job as an Assistant Professor teaching in the UConn Department of Animal Science. In addition to teaching, Dr. Hoagland is the advisor for the Block and Bridle Club. Each year he travels with the club to the annual National Convention and Northeast Students Affiliate competition as well as generously donating his time and money to several other club functions, including Little I. We would like to thank him for all of the time and support he gives to both the club and the Department of Animal Science and we are honored to have him as our Guest of Distinction. Thank you and congratulations Dr. Hoagland! -Members of the Block & Bridle Club
