10:01:07From topThe warmth of Spring. The heat of a derby.

10:01:10FlagOn Tuesday El Vicente Caldern played host to the latest contest between Atltico Madrid and Real Madrid. Two teams who share a city, and an intense rivalry.

10:01:22NAT SOT FAN: (SPANISH)THIS CITY IS OURS!

10:01:24NAT SOT FAN: (SPANISH)VAMOS ATLTI!!

10:01:26NAT SOT FAN: (SPANISH)THIS CITY IS OURS!

10:01:28NAT SOT FAN: (SPANISH)HALA MADRID!!

10:01:32After SOTThe tie evoked memories of last seasons final, a joyous time for everyone connected with Real Madrid, and no one more so than their defender Sergio Ramos.

10:01:43SOT: SERGIO RAMOS (SPANISH)

I FOUND IT VERY HARD TO WIN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, BUT IN ALL HONESTY IT WAS DEFINITELY WORTH THE WAIT BECAUSE OF HOW EVERYTHING WENT LAST SEASON, AND HOW WE EVENTUALLY WON IT; WITH HARD WORK AND COLLECTIVE SACRIFICES. AND I WAS A MAJOR PART OF BOTH THE SEMI-FINAL AND FINAL. THATS WHY THIS COMPETITION IS SO SPECIAL TO ME.

10:02:06SOT: SERGIO RAMOS (SPANISH)

PLAYING IN THIS COMPETITION TURNS YOU INTO A DIFFERENT PLAYER. YOU COME UP AGAINST THE TOP TEAMS IN EUROPE AND THATS WHAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT, ITS WHAT MAKES YOU A TOP PLAYER. ITS IN THOSE GAMES THAT YOU SEE EVERY FOOTBALLERS TRUE PERSONALITY AND ITS WHERE YOU SEE THE MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS OF THEM ALL.

10:02:31After SOTNine years after joining Los Blancos the journey to winning La Dcima was extra special for Ramos. After three successive Semi-Final defeats, the 29-year-old scored twice in the Semi-Final second leg demolition of Bayern Munich last year, as Real took their place in the final in Lisbon.

10:02:52Aerial stadiumAnd against Atltico his contribution gained him legendary status. Ramos equalised in the 93rd minute. And in extra-time Real were rampant.

10:03:02SOT: SERGIO RAMOS (SPANISH)

REAL MADRID IS A CLUB AT WHICH YOU HAVE TO FIGHT TO THE VERY END. HOPE IS THE LAST THING YOU LOSE, AND MAYBE THATS WHAT IT REPRESENTED FOR OUR FANS: FIGHTING SPIRIT, COMMITMENT UNTIL THE VERY LAST SECOND, UNTIL THE REFEREE DECIDES TO BRING THE MATCH TO AN END. I REMEMBER IT WITH A SMILE. I THINK THAT WHEN MY CAREER IS OVER THAT WILL BE MY LASTING MEMORY, IN THE FUTURE WHEN WERE NOT HERE OR WHEN IM OLDER, IM GOING TO BE ABLE TO SHOW THAT MOMENT TO MY SON, AND MY GRANDCHILDREN.

10:03:35SOT: SERGIO RAMOS (SPANISH)

AFTER SO MANY YEARS WITHOUT WINNING THE TROPHY, HAVING DONE SO IS A REWARD FOR ALL OUR HARD WORK AND SACRIFICE. BUT NOW WEVE GOT ANOTHER CHALLENGE: TO TRY TO MAKE HISTORY AND WIN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE IN CONSECUTIVE YEARS, WHICH NO OTHER TEAM HAS DONE. AND THAT WOULD BE ANOTHER HISTORIC STEP FOR US.

Magazine Show 25 Featured Review: Atltico v Real MadridTIMEPICTURE:SOUNDCOMMENTARY

10:04:06TimelapseIf Real are to retain their crown, they knew they would first need to dispose of a rival they hadnt defeated in six games already this season. El Vicente Calderon was shaking on Tuesday - with the Atltico Madrid fans calling for courage and heart from their players.

10:04:24Controlling ballIt was Real who were quickly into their stride. Gareth Bale spectacularly denied by Jan Oblak. The Slovenian goalkeeper would have an inspired night.

10:04:33Atlti fansReal fansThe noise was deafening with both sets of fans unwavering in their dedication.

10:04:38Ronaldo/Bale chanceCarlo Ancelottis team were dominating possession, providing a stern test of a defence yet to concede at home in Europe this season. Atlti were struggling for an outlet.

10:04:50Rodriguez shot(36 minutes)James Rodriguez was next to be denied by Oblak.

10:04:55Griezmann chanceBefore a half-chance came and went for Antoine Griezmann.

10:04:59Montage of ISOAll square at the break.

10:05:01Turan chance(49 minutes)In the second period Atlti finally found a foothold, increasing their intensity and pressing more intelligently.

10:05:10 Montage of ISOThis was a high stakes battle - which captivated and intrigued.

10:05:14FansClear chances were few and far between, but the pressure on Iker Casillas goal was increasing.

10:05:21Modric shot

At the other end Atltis exceptional defence stood firm again.

10:05:26Torres run(87 minutes)Casillas secured a record equalling 51st UEFA Champions League clean sheet. But for the first time ever, Real have gone seven games without victory over Atleti.

10:05:37SOT: CARLO ANCELOTTI: (Spanish)I THINK THAT DURING THE FIRST HALF WE DESERVED BETTER THAN NIL-NIL, BUT THATS WHAT WE GOT. AND I WANT TO EMPHASISE HOW WELL WE PLAYED, PARTICULARLY IN THAT FIRST PERIOD WHEN OUR PERFORMANCE WAS FANTASTIC. WE PLAYED VERY WELL AND SHOWED GREAT PERSONALITY. THE SECOND HALF WAS DIFFERENT, ATLTICO PRESSURED HARDER AND WE FOUND IT MORE DIFFICULT, THE GAME WAS THEN MORE EQUAL.

10:06:06SOT: DIEGO SIMONE: (Spanish)WE HAD THE BRILLIANT OBLAK WHO PLAYED SUPERBLY, HE DID ESPECIALLY WELL AGAINST BALE, WHO HAD THEIR BEST OPPORTUNITY. AS THE MATCH PROGRESSED I THINK THE BEST ASPECT OF OUR GAME WAS THE WAY THAT WE REACTED AFTER THE BREAK. ANY OTHER SIDE WHO WAS PUNISHED AS WE WERE IN THE FIRST HALF WOULD HAVE SIMPLY FOLDED IN THE SECOND PERIOD.

10:06:26After SOTAtltis immovable resolve is further evidence of the influence of their irrepressible leader. Next weeks return leg is balanced on a knife edge.

10:06:36SOT: DIEGO SIMONE: (Spanish)I THINK ITS GOING TO BE A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT GAME, THE TYPE OF MATCH THAT EVERYONE ENJOYS, SUPPORTERS, COACHES AND PLAYERS ALIKE. A GAME THAT EXHIBITS THE VERY BEST OF FOOTBALL - FEELINGS OF ANXIETY, FEAR, AND RESPONSIBILITY, ALL THE THINGS THAT MAKE US FALL IN LOVE WITH THIS BEAUTIFUL SPORT.

10:07:19SOT: FAN #4 (SPANISH)TIRELESS.

10:07:21After SOTThere are many words to describe Diego Simeone the footballer. And in many ways his Atltico Madrid team embody, and exemplify, the very virtues he so magnificently demonstrated as a midfielder.

10:07:35SOT: DIEGO SIMEONE (SPANISH)I THINK THAT THE TEAM REFLECTS HARD WORK, AND IN PARTICULAR THE BEST WAY TO PERFORM COLLECTIVELY ON THE PITCH. WE ARE A TIGHT GROUP. WE PLAY TO OUR STRENGTHS AND TRY TO HIDE THE DEFECTS THAT WE HAVE. THAT'S HOW THE TEAM KNOWS WHAT IT CAN DO, AND UNDERSTANDING THIS MAKES US COMPETITIVE, AND HAS ENABLED US TO SHOW OUR STRENGTH IN RECENT TIMES.

10:08:06After SOTSince taking over at El Vicente Caldern in 2011 El Cholo has led Atlti to five different major honours.

10:08:20SOT: FAN #3 (SPANISH)UNFORGIVING.

10:08:22SOT: DIEGO SIMEONE (SPANISH)IT'S A COLLECTION OF THINGS. I DON'T THINK YOU CAN BE COMPETITIVE FOR FOUR YEARS JUST BECAUSE OF YOUR ATTITUDE, OR JUST BECAUSE OF YOUR TACTICS, OR TALENT. I THINK THAT THE GOOD THING ABOUT THIS TEAM IS THAT IT'S RESPECTED. WE CONTINUE TO WORK HARD AND DON'T LOOK BACK. WE KEEP GROWING AND IMPROVING. AND I THINK THAT'S OUR MAIN STRENGTH AS A TEAM.

10:08:44SOT: DIEGO GODN (SPANISH)COMMITMENT IS OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE, AND ITS SOMETHING HE INTRODUCED ON THE FIRST DAY THAT HE ARRIVED. EL CHOLO IS THE ONE WHO LAID THE FOUNDATIONS FOR THIS WHOLE PROJECT AT ATLTICO MADRID. HE WAS THE ONE WHO CHANGED THE MENTALITY OF THE PLAYERS, THE FANS, AND THE CLUB. EVERYBODY SUPPORTS HIM TO THE DEATH. WE HAVE FAITH IN HIM, WE FOLLOW HIM AND WE ARE CONVINCED OF WHAT WE ARE DOING. HES THE LEADER OF OUR GROUP.

10:09:22After SOTThe only trophy to elude Atltico under Simeones leadership is that of the UEFA Champions League - so cruelly snatched from them by Real, last May.

10:09:32SOT: DIEGO SIMEONE (SPANISH)I DON'T BELIEVE THAT REVENGE EXISTS IN FOOTBALL. YOU PLAY MATCHES, WHAT HAPPENED BEFORE IS GONE. THAT MOMENT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. AND THIS MATCH IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, AT A BEAUTIFUL STAGE, THE QUARTER-FINALS. ITS BETWEEN TWO TEAMS WHO WILL TRY TO DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE IN THEIR OWN WAY, WHILE RESPECTING THEIR OPPONENT'S STYLE, TO STAY IN THIS COMPETITION.

10:09:57SOT: FAN #3 (SPANISH)IRRESISTIBLE.

10:09:59SOT: FAN #2 (SPANISH)UNSTOPPABLE.

10:10:02After SOTOnly last month Simeone committed to a new five-year contract with Los Rojiblancos. Reinforcing belief among the club that recent successes are a platform for future triumphs.

10:10:19SOT: DIEGO SIMEONE (SPANISH)I THINK THAT THERE WILL COME A POINT WHEN I'M NO LONGER AT THIS CLUB WHEN I CAN LOOK BACK AT EVERYTHING I'VE DONE, BE IT GOOD OR BAD. BUT AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME, WE LIVE EXCLUSIVELY FOCUSED ON WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN. WE CANNOT BE DETERRED FROM OUR OBJECTIVES. OUR AIM IS TO GROW, TO IMPROVE AND TO BE COMPETITIVE IN THE SAME WAY REGARDLESS OF WHETHER WERE PLAYING A FRIENDLY, THE COPA DEL REY, THE SUPER CUP, THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE OR LA LIGA. FIRST OF ALL WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT IT MEANS TO WEAR THE ATLETICO MADRID SHIRT AND, OF COURSE, PLAY WELL TOO.

10:14:24Teams outThe French club were unbeaten in their last 33 European home matches, but with several key players missing, this would be a stiff test for Laurent Blancs side.

10:15:29Cavani shot well saved / Barca enjoy themselves, possession and flicks, XaviThe PSG fans were stunned. Cavani was unlucky not to hit back immediately. But Barcelona would soon make things even worse for the hosts. Space was opening up, in front of the PSG defence.

10:15:46Suarez 0-3Another nutmeg felt cruel on David Luiz. Rushed back from a hamstring injury, but there are very few who can live with Surez, at his insatiable best. 3-0. Ecstasy for the Barcelona faithful.

10:16:02PSG 1-3 Gregory Van der Wiels late deflected effort offered a glimmer of hope for PSG, but once again Barcelona had made excellent European opposition, look ordinary.

10:16:13SOT: LUIS ENRIQUE (SPANISH)We created good opportunities at the right TIME AND Our finishing was EXCELLENT in the final third. We were solid and united, we pushed up the pitch and always pressed the ball. I think it was a very complete performance.
