The new Student Centre will include a state of the art, fully equipped cinema for UCD students. It will add hugely to the range of facilities available to the UCD community on campus and will be open for use by societies for film showings, clubs for video analysis, classes for academic screenings, private parties as well as public screenings of the latest blockbusters and some of the great classics in cinema history, as well as the opportunity to organise student film festivals and showings of original work. Some of its special features will include:

One of the central features of the new Student Centre project is the building of UCD’s own on campus swimming pool. A long sought after goal of both students and staff, the new pool will move UCD to the forefront of sporting facility provi-sion in Ireland. It will be largest pool in south Dublin, and will be a full sized 50 metre Olympic pool, endorsed by FINA and the OCI. The main features of the new pool complex include:

• 10 lanes• 25 x 50 metres, Olympic size approved by FINA (the international swim ming governing authority) and the Olympic Council of Ireland• Reserved training times for UCD sports clubs• Spectator seating area for up to 100 people for regattas and competitions• Wellness centre that includes:± - Saunas± - Steam room± - Jacuzzi ± - Plunge pool± - Children’s play area • Wet class room for training and demonstrations• Wet changing area with full shower facilities (both individual and group)• Fully retractable boom to allow for the sectioning of the pool• A movable floor to increase or decrease the depth of the pool• Guaranteed access for UCD students at peak times • Open weekends

With the building of the new Student Centre, DramSoc, one of UCD’s leading societies, will get a new home. A new purpose build, fully equipped, black box theatre will represent a huge expansion in the range of facilities available to UCD students who hear the calling of the stage. In addition to housing Dram-Soc, the theatre will also be available to host touring theatre companies and students studying drama. Some of the features of the theatre will include:

The New Student Centre will contain permanent, purpose built, state-of-the-art facilities to ensure that UCD will continue to lead the way with the most active and innovative student media in Ireland.
