All full-time applicants to University Centre at Blackburn College need to apply through UCAS – the University and Colleges Admissions Service.

You will need to do this online – paper applications are not accepted.

Step by Step Guide to Applying through UCAS

Log onto www.ucas.com

Click on Apply or Track

Click on Apply for 2015 courses

Click on Register (you will only have to do this once)

Read welcome page and click next

Read and accept the Terms & Conditions

Follow the online instructions to register your personal details (make sure your name is how it appears on your exam entries and certificates to avoid any issues later)

Your mobile number and a sensible email address are useful to include as universities and UCAS increasingly use these to contact you

Security – choose a password, and answer 4 security questions

The system will automatically issue your username. Make a note of it now as it will not be displayed at a later stage

You will now receive an email from UCAS with an email verification code

Return to the Register / Log in to use Apply 2015 via Apply

Log in with your user name and password

Confirm how you are applying, as an individual or through your school/College.

‘As an individual’ means you will probably not be a current student and are applying independently.

‘Through your school/College’ means you are a current student, please check with your course tutor because you will require a buzzword to proceed applying this way.

Deadline Date: 15th January 2015

Please note: the earlier you fully complete your UCAS Form the better!* *If places are still available applications

will still be considered after this date

IMPORTANT:

If you are applying through a school/college you must enter the ‘Buzzword’ provided by them.

If you are a student at Blackburn College please speak to your tutor before applying.

Confirm whether you live outside the UK, and whether you are currently attending school/college

The system will automatically generate your Personal ID number (e.g. 123-456-7890)

Click on ‘Please click here’ to verify your email address

Enter the code given to you in the email from UCAS. This will verify your email address

Click to enter the Welcome page

Completing your application form

Work through each section listed on the left hand side of the screen

You must answer the questions marked with a red asterix

You can click on Help on the ? to the right of each question for a full explanation of the information required

Remember that the form doesn’t have to be completed all in one go. You can save at any point and come back to it at another time

To make any amendments or to continue entering details in a section you have yet to complete, click on the relevant section on the left hand side of the screen

References

Enter reference details in Apply and submit a request to your referee which is sent via email

The referee must then log-in to a secure site to complete the reference on behalf of the applicant. Once submitted, this reference will be attached to the application, and will not be visible to the applicant in Apply, nor will it be possible to make any further changes. Don’t forget to confirm with your tutor they have completed your reference.

When you are happy that all the details are correct, tick the section completed box at the bottom of each screen and click save. A red tick will then appear next to that section on the left hand side of the screen

Some general hints

Save as you go

Check your progress at any stage by clicking View all details

Mark each section as complete only when you are sure that all details are correct.

Common mistakes

Previous surname at 16th birthday – leave blank if your surname is the same now as it was when you were aged 16 years

Home address – leave blank if it’s the same as your postal address

Email address – please use something sensible and straight forward. Avoid using anything rude or crude. Remember you may use this in correspondence with potential employers in the future

Dual nationality – only fill in if you have a passport of a second country

Permanent residence - use the name of your local authority

Fee code – usually 02 (if applying for a student loan). Common mistakes are people selecting 01 (private finance) or 99 (other)

Payment:

Costs for the 2015 application cycle are:

£12.00 – for a single choice £23.00 – for 2–5 choices

What happens next?

Once UCAS have received your application you will be contacted by UCAS inviting you to log-in to the Track section of their website. Here you will be able to follow the progress of your applications.

Depending on the course you have applied for, you may be asked to attend an interview, and/or submit a portfolio.

Please remember that you will need to respond to any offers made via Track within the deadlines set by UCAS.

Your Route to Enrolment

ApplicationApply through www.UCAS.com. Our institution code is B40 and you’ll find our range of courses under ‘Blackburn College’.

InterviewFor some courses, depending on your experience, we may invite you for an interview. This will be informal and is an opportunity to look around our £65 million student village.

OfferWe’ll issue you an offer of a place on a course depending on your application and/or outcome of your interview.

AcceptanceYou confirm the offer of a place so that we know you’re coming in September. Do not delay in accepting your offer.

EnrolmentWe’ll write to you in August to confirm the date and time of your enrolment and first classes in September 2015.

Student FinanceDon’t delay in applying for Student Finance - the sooner you apply, the sooner you’ll have all your finances in place at the start of your course.
