Since its foundation in 1990, UBU has rapidly grown. We have always been striving for academic excellence to help promote sustainable development of the country and the region, especially the southern part of Northeast Thailand, a region rich in culture, history, and potential development. UBU has links to various overseas institutions via research, collaborative projects, and exchange programs. It plays a significant role in the development of the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS). UBU also proclaims as its goal to become a leading learning institution in ASEAN. The university is working hard to ensure its staff’s and graduates’ readiness for the ASEAN Community in 2015. Semester 1 is from June to October, and Semester 2 is from November to February. A summer semester from April to May is also offered in some selected courses presented in intensive mode. UBU ADMISSION AND TUITION FEES International students’ admission is considered on a case-by-case basis. Tuition fees vary. For more details, please contact the appropriate faculty directly or the Division of International Relations. The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences was ranked second in Thailand in the percentage of graduates who received their Pharmacy Licenses from The Pharmacy Council. Graduates of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences won distinction awards for their Poster Presentation in the International Research Award on 13-14 February 2010 in the field of Pharmaceutical Practice. Students in the Faculty of Science won the following: - first prize in Animation type 2D, E-SAAN PITCH Project - second prize in National Software Contest - third prize in Entertainment Application - outstanding Poster Award at the International Conference PACCON 2010 - first prize in Energy Short Film Contest organized by Office of Energy Region 7 Ministry of Energy - consolation prize in Undergraduate Students Project Contest at the conference organized by Thai Physics Society in 2009 - consolation prize in SIPA Game Contest in 2009 - consolation prize in ICT Media Contest Class VDC Leaning Contest - qualified as Bayer Young Environmental Envoy Reunion Camp in 2009 - received scholarship from IRPUS Staff Associate Professor Dr Pongsak Rattanachaikunsopon, a lecturer in the Faculty of Science, won an Outstanding Researcher Award. The 9 research publications received Journal Impact Factor at the 4 th UBU Research Conference. Assistant Professor Dr Udom Tipparath, a lecturer in the Faculty of Science, was awarded “Valuable Person for Education” in 2010 by the Office of the Welfare Promotion Commission for Teachers and Educational Personnel Assistant Professor Dr Pornpan Pungpo, a lecturer in the Faculty of Science, was awarded a L-OREAL fellowship for Women in Science in 2010 Associate Professor Dr Kulachet Pianthong, Director of Research and Service at the Energy Center, Ubon Ratchathani University received a Thailand Energy Award in recognition of the promotion of energy conservation and development of alternative energy (Educational Institute) from the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, Ministry of Energy in 2010. Assistant Professor Dr Adun Janyalertadun, a lecturer in the Faculty of Engineering, received an Outstanding Research Award for Invention/Innovation titled “Prototype of Infrared Radiation for Eliminating Insects from Organic Jasmine Rice.” Dr Piyarat Thannipat, a lecturer in the College of Medicine and Public Health, received an Out- standing Medical Teacher Award on Morality and Ethics from the Medical Council of Thailand. Students of the Faculty of Applied Arts and Design won third prize for Young Designers at the Gem and Jewelry Design Awards 2010 Students of the Faculty of Management Science won a consolation prize in Marketing Plan Contest for New Health-related Products Students from the Faculty of Liberal Arts: - won first place in the 36 th Japanese speech competition - were awarded scholarships to participate in the University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific (UMAP) and Staff and Student Exchange Program between Thailand and Greater Mekong Sub-region Countries (GMS) exchange programs Students from the Faculty of Engineering: - won second place in national competition titled Artificial motor type, 4 stroke Honda engine at university level - received an honorable mention in the English essay competition on the topic of “His Majesty the King (The Great Engineer)” - won the robot competition to light the candle at the Candle Festival of Ubon Ratchathani province - placed second in the geotechnical engineering competition organized by The Engineering Institute of Thailand under H.M. The King’s patronage with an entry titled “Analysis of credibility of raw wall in sheet pile type when there is attached anchorage” - won royal charity coins for good studies - won a supporting scholar award from NECTEC for a competition project “Creation of FRID innovation” - received fifth championship award in selective round at Scheider University. UBU RESEARCH UBU academics actively conduct research projects in a wide range of topics in many disciplines. The university particularly encourages research beneficialtothelocalcommunityofsouthernNorth-EastThailandandtheGreater Mekong Sub-region. UBU research centers include UBU Science Park, Learning Organization and Development Center of Sesame for Sustainable Agro-household Industry, Advanced Organic Materials and Devices Laboratory, and the Mekong Sub-region Social Research Center. Ubon Ratchathani University

is a comprehensive state university

founded in 1990 located in the District

of Warin Chamrap, Ubon Ratchathani,

the eastern-most province of Thailand

bordering Lao PDR and Cambodia. It

is about 650 km from Bangkok and is
