Update on Executive Order on Visas and Travel for Nationals of
Certain Countries
On March 6th President Trump signed a revised Executive Order banning
nationals of six countries (Iran Libya Somalia Sudan Syria and Yemen)
from obtaining US visas or traveling to the US for 90 days This ban was
scheduled to go into effect on March 16th but was blocked by federal
judges on March 15th As of today the executive order is not in effect and
nationals from these 6 countries are eligible to obtain visas and travel to
the US However this matter is still developing and the judge rulings may
be reversed The UAMS Immigration Services office strongly recommends
that anyone who is a citizen of one of the countries affected not travel out
of the US until further notice If you have any questions or concerns
please contact the Immigration Services office at 501-686-8132 or
AskImmigrationuamsedu to schedule an appointment with one of our
staff members
Delays in Visa Processing Abroad
Recently the Immigration Services Office has noticed a delay in pro-
cessing time for some visa applications at US consulates abroad This
delay in processing time has affected both new visa applicants as well as
renewals and has been experienced by both J-1 and H-1B visa holders If
you plan to travel outside of the US in the near future and will need to re-
new your visa stamp while abroad please prepare for a longer processing
time than normal and adjust your travel dates if necessary As a reminder
all H-1B visa holders must request an H-1B Travel Packet at least 2 weeks
prior to travel if a visa renewal is
necessary Also J-1 visa holders
must get a travel signature on
their DS-2019 prior to all travel
Contact our office if you have
travel-related questions
