HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEAD,ERS HERE FOR YMCA CLINIC
Todays clash with the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles marks the second home game and the third OVC battle of the season for Coach Nick Denes' fighting Hilltopper football team. The Big Red are fighting for their share of the OVC crown.
Today better than 700 high school cheerleaders from south central and Western Kentucky are on hand to aid the Western Cheerleaders in urging the Western Hilltoppers to a win over Tennessee Tech.
ALL THE YOUNG PEOPLE ARE MOST CORDIALLY WELCOMED TO THE WESTERN
CAMPUS WITH BEST WISHES FOR A PLEASANT DAY.
The youthful yell leaders are here for the annual YMCA Cheerleaders Clinic which is one of the big events of the Hilltop Campus each season,
The Cheerleaders Clinic got underway this morning with registration in the Western gymnasium at 8:00 a.m. The program began at 9:00 a.m. and continued until noon. The cheer-leaders are guests of the college at this afternoon's football game.
Mr. Al Leitchfield, state secretary of the YMCA and a familiar figure at all Clinics over the past eight years, is in charge of the Clinic today. This year he will be ably assisted by Mr. John Journey and Mr. Louis Baugh.
Competitive cheering between the cheering squads here today was held at 10:00 and continued until 11:30 when an instruction period was held until noon. All cheers used were related t~_ basketball. Also competitive cheering was held for Junior Squads.
A trophy will be awarded during the half time to the winner and runner-up of the Iclheer~ jng contests.
The cheerleaders were greeted this morning by President Thompson. Al Leitchfield called the Clinic to Order and squad demonstrations were given by the Western Cheerleaders. After the competitive cheering a demonstration period was held then the cheerleaders were guests ,of the ~Ql~ lege for lunch.
