THE HOWS RACESAFE JUNIOR PROGRAMME AND BRITISH JUNIOR TEAMThe Junior Programme is designed to train, identify and produce a squad to represent Great Britain at the Junior European Championships. This programme has helped many successful riders on their path to senior team success including Tina Cook, William Fox-Pitt and Laura Collett. Like the U18 programme at BE100 and BE U18 level, training is delivered by dedicated U18 Regional Coaches who you can locate earlier on in this booklet (page three).

WHO CAN TAKE PART IN THE JUNIOR PROGRAMME

The British Junior Programme is open to riders in their 14th to 18th year riding horses who have registered their interest to be selected for Britain’s Junior squad and who are qualified to compete at BE Intermediate level. Ideally riders have

already competed in at least one CCI1* or higher, or intend to achieve such CCI qualification in the spring of the year you are hoping to be selected.

WHERE CAN I COMPETE?

The Junior team selectors work closely with the U18 Regional Coaches to identify potential combinations for the team that are competing at BE ONu18 level as well as formal trials at selected venues and open competitions at other venues. These are outlined on the website under www.britisheventing.com/youtheventing

JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS AND THREE DAY EVENTS

In addition to competing for a place on the British Junior team at the annual FEI European Championships, eligible riders can also aim for the annual British Junior Championships at Brand Hall in June as well as the end of season CCIJ1* at Weston Park in October.

THE YOUNG RIDER PROGRAMME AND BRITISH YOUNG RIDER TEAMBritain’s Young Riders (YR) also have an incredible record of team medals with a recent highlight being team silver in tough weather conditions at the 2013 Young Rider Europeans in Jardy.

The main aim of BE’s YR Programme is to select the team and individuals to represent Great Britain with the aim of winning team and individual medals at annual FEI Young Rider European Championships.

The Young Rider Selectors are seeking talented YRs for the future, and to help and encourage them through to the top level, in order to widen the choice of candidates available eventually for selection for the Senior team.

The purpose of the Programme is to produce medal winners, but it is also about education and having fun. There is great camaraderie within the Programme and this assists the learning curve that riders go through.

WHO CAN TAKE PART IN THE YR PROGRAMME

The programme for Young Riders welcomes anyone in their 19th to 21st year who, as a combination of horse and rider, has attained the minimum qualification of a completion of a CCI*, CIC*, or an Intermediate one day.

YOUNG RIDER CHAMPIONSHIPS AND THREE DAY EVENTS

In addition to competing for a place on the British YR team at the annual FEI European Championships, eligible riders can also aim for the annual British YR Championships which will be held at Houghton Hall near Kings Lynn in Norfolk in 2014 for the first time. Full information about selection trials and U21 rankings as well as registration documents can be found on www.britisheventing.com/youtheventing

TRAIN FOR THE TOPOur various programmes all offer local training as well as course walks at events; to find out more about what’s coming up in your region, make sure you have registered for the programme of your choice on www.britisheventing.com/youtheventing then get in touch with your U18 Regional Coordinator.

COURSE WALKING

To get a helping hand on your way, BE organise course walks at all levels of youth competition with BE Accredited Coaches who will help you to work out how you are going to navigate your plan of cross country attack. You will receive notification of where and when the course walks will meet via our social media channels as well as the event’s schedule page on www.britisheventing.co/fixtures.Course walks are free for BE members.

REGIONAL CAMPS AND TRAINING

Each of the various programmes hold their own camp in their respective region – often these will take place pre-season to make sure riders have a good head start or alternatively they will take place nearer the time of the respective Championships for that programme.

Often the camps will include video analysis, show jumping and cross country training as well as grid-work, course walking practice and stable management tips too.

The costs can vary depending on the location and the Coaches but you can expect to pay between £25 and £45 for an expert training session as well as get the chance to meet other riders your age that live locally.

COMPETE IN THE WINTER MONTHS

BE also offer two winter series in January and February. In association with Baileys Horse Feeds, these courses are there to help budding eventers get match practice in before the season starts. Jump Training is a show jumping focussed series where riders gain course walks and feedback as part of the competition whilst Jumping and Style gives riders the chance to tackle a thrilling indoor track over show jumps and cross country style fences.
