elcome everyone to today's Airtricity League U19match against Longford Town. Our target thisseason is promotion to the Elite Division so thatour young players can test themselves againstthe best sides at U19 level week in, week out.Every club in the Southern Section will havestarted with the same target and the division isvery tight with just three points separating thetop three teams. With just four games left in theseason, today's is a hugely important one for theclub. Our next game, away to table-topping MervueUnited next weekend, looks like it will be thecritical remaining fixture, but only if we do ourjob and approach our other games profession-ally. While we won comfortably in our openinggame of the season at home against Longford,we were beaten in the return fixture in Octoberso we can take nothing for granted, nor will we.Our senior squad is building comfortably aheadof the new season and it's up to our U19 playersto play themselves into Stuart's plans for nextseason. We've put a lot of work into these youngplayers. Many have received international hon-ours but it's up to them now to push on. Stuarthas already shown his willingness to bringyoung players through and Shane Costelloe,Colm Murphy, Val Feeney, Tony Whitehead andKieran Hanlon are among those who established

themselves in matchday squads and starts lastseason. That experience is invaluable for thoseplayers and is a great return on the structures weput in place in the club.I'd like to acknowledge the volunteers who givetheir time on U19 matchdays and have helpeddrive a strong level of organisation and standardof service around our underage games. Volun-teers are vital to the club and their efforts arehugely appreciated. Thanks for your support, onand off the pitch; it plays a huge part in the de-velopment of these underage players.Enjoy the game.

ood afternoon and welcome to our Southern Di-vision game against Longford Town. The lasttime we faced Longford, in October, they beatus 1-0 and that’s a defeat that is still very freshin my mind. Longford play 4-3-3 and like to playout from the back. In fairness to them, theyscored a great goal from long range against us towin the last meeting. After that, they got tenmen behind the ball and defended well. We didour best to get back on terms but we justcouldn’t break them down. We were missing alot of our players that day as they were involvedin the first-team squad who were playing in Brayat the same time. That gave a lot of our youngerplayers an opportunity which was good. Butwe’ll have all those lads back now so we’ll bestrong. I thought after beating us that Longfordwould go on and get better results but theyhaven’t done that for whatever reason. They cer-tainly did improve from the opening day whenwe beat them 4-0 in LIT/St. Nessan’s. But we’lljust concentrate on ourselves and focus on get-ting the right result. This afternoon, we areswitching back to the artificial surface here atAisling Annacotty and I’m happy with that. Lastseason, we did really well here but struggledwhen we went to play on grass. This term, wehave a 100 percent record on grass at St. Nessan’sand I feel we’ve improved away from home. We’re training on the astro so the players arewell used to it and it may be to our advantage. We have good quality players and they should be

able to show what they can do on a good surface. It’s that time of the year where pitches aren’tgreat and that was the case two weeks ago whenwe played Wexford Youths at St. Nessan’s, sowe’ve decided to switch to here. I felt we put ina good performance against Wexford. We wereon top and could have scored more goals, buthopefully on the better surface today we canmove the ball quicker and convert morechances. Hopefully, we can put two good resultstogether before Christmas and if we do that Ifeel we’ll be well on our way to reaching our tar-get. On a final note, well done to Val Feeney(hat-trick), Evan Shine (two goals), Shane Walshand AJ O’Connor who all featured in a 6-1 winfor the Irish Schools during the week againstSalthill Devon Under-19s. Enjoy the game.
