Managers Profile: Name: Andrew Booth What is your football background? – Played amateur football for many years and have been a season ticket holder at Burnley for 30 years. Got involved in Junior coaching when my son joined Pennine Juniors in 2008.

How long have you been involved with Pennine Juniors? Since my son joined Pennine Juniors in 2008.

How long have you been managing a team? This will be my second season.

What do you like most about managing a team? Seeing the players develop both on and off the field and knowing that you are doing something positive to promote this development.

What do you find challenging when managing a team? The parents and the opposition. I am increasingly frustrated at the emphasis that is placed on winning at all costs rather than using football as a way of ensuring personal development as well.

What has been your funniest/best/ most memorable moment? There are positive moments all the time or we wouldn’t do it. For me however there are too many to single out.

Describe your team: Our team changes every year as we develop players for the Black team. However we consistently play the game in the right manner and with a smile on our faces even when we are not particularly competitive on the field. I hope that this never changes.

What are you focusing on in training? Being comfortable on the ball and ensuring that we pass and move.

Tell us the best game to date and why: Our first ever game as Under 8’s B team in 2008. We had been set up overnight and never played a game but everyone loved every minute and we gave an excellent account of ourselves.

What advice/tips would you give to young, up and coming footballers? Just enjoy the game and what team sport gives every kid growing up. It can have significant benefits to you in whatever you chose to do in later life.

Latest Match report: 9.3.13 – Pennine Juniors Whites vs Prestwich Town

The Under 12’s Whites rich vein of recent form continued with a comprehensive 5:1 victory over Prestwich Town. Having lost the corresponding away fixture 6:1 it only goes to show how much recent improvement has been made by all the players.

In reality the score line flattered the visitors as Pennine played some excellent passing football to outclass the opposition especially in the second half. Two goals each from Macauley Stagg and Callum Harrison and a 5th from Thomas Booth rounded off a superb team performance. Man of the match Bradley Lowery was at the heart of a well marshalled defence.

Again the most pleasing element for the coach was the team spirit and togetherness shown by the whole squad which is growing in confidence.

Previous match reports: 2.3.13 – Unsworth Demons vs Pennine Juniors Whites

The Under 12’s Whites secured only their second win of the season with a sensational 1:0 away victory at high flying Unsworth Demons.

Before today the home team had suffered only 3 defeats in their previous 9 matches but a spirited team effort saw Pennine storm to victory with a last minute strike from Macauley Stagg that was fit to win any game. A well-deserved clean sheet was just desserts for an excellent defensive performance marshalled by Captain Scott Barnes and keeper Nic Friend.

In a match dominated throughout by Pennine even the miss of a second half penalty could not stop the boys from achieving a much needed and moral victory.

All 12 squad players made significant contributions to an exemplary team performance that should set them up for an exciting end to the season. Congratulations to them all.
