Seven years ago when the Canton Soccer Club formed Canton Celtic we knew we were creating more then just a new “Club”. Celtic is the vehicle for those players wanting and needing a higher level/brand of soccer. In the development of Celtic we saw the Club growing under these three guidelines…

The mission of the Canton Soccer Club Select and Premier Program (Celtic) is to provide a positive and creative environment for the advanced players to improve their soccer skills. With top coaching, excellent

facilities and a year round program each player will have the potential to reach his or her maximum level of performance. All while learning the skills of commitment, dedication, teamwork and sportsmanship.

PA S TThe Club during these past 7 years has seen the youth soccer landscape change and grow in many ways. • Club growth from 28 to 62 select/premier teams. • More success in the state cup as well as league and tournament play. • Numerous players recognized in the ODP program. • Many players advancing to play in college and beyond.

P R E S E N TThe most recent changes have been our growing involvement in MRL (Midwest Regional League) and the Director’s Academy. These are leagues that demand we put a high quality soccer product on the field for each and every game. The competition is fierce and those teams that do not keep up can and will get relegated from those leagues. Given that type of environment it is paramount that our Celtic teams, in key age groups, are properly prepared to not only face this challenge but to also excel.

F U T U R EIt is with that goal in mind that we felt we must look to change some of the current programming that Celtic offers.

U 1 1 - U 1 4 B L A C K T E A M SNew programming centered on our U11 and U12 boys and girls black teams (or typically our Directors Academy teams) and also our U13 and U14 boys and girls black teams (which are typically our year round MRL teams. !These teams, by the nature of the leagues they compete in, must prepare and train to win. To this end we are revamping our goals and training protocols for these teams. Beginning this fall (Fall of 2014), in addition to all the other facets of the Celtic program (team camp, 4 tournaments per year, winter indoor training, etc, these teams will add the following…

• Overloaded August training • Train 3 times per week during the Fall and Spring seasons • Six (6) additional technical/functional training sessions

per year. • Six (6) tournaments included (instead of four)

• Two (2) which will be “home/local” (includes Canton Cup)

• Plus….

In addition to all the regular features offered by Celtic, these teams will add the following to their yearly schedule…

U11-U14 Black Teams

• These coaches will only coach 2 teams in the program (2 teams total).

• Each team will receive one free session of Futsal league play in the winter (teams split into two teams)

• Each member of these teams will be allowed to sign up for one FREE session of Celtic Winter Training Series; Celtic Touch, Striker/Keeper, etc. (this does NOT include the Celtic Futsal Program)

• All State Cup and DA cup registration & referee fees will be covered by the club for this program (not currently included unless you make the quarter-finals).

Typical Year at a Glance….

Team Camp !Fall Practice Schedule • We will practice Mon-Thurs 9:30am - 11:00am every week from July 28th

- August 28th. • After School begins in September we will train on Monday, Wednesday

and Thursday from 5:00pm to 6:30pm for the rest of the season • We will have 3 additional functional training sessions. !Fall Game schedule • We will be playing in The MRL this year! • We will have 7-9 games through the fall to schedule. • We will play 2-3 games a weekend. The games will be played in,

Michigan, Ohio or Illinois. Usually for the first year you play a week or two in Michigan and a week or two in Ohio.

U11 to U14 Canton Celtic Advanced Program

All of what is available to our DA/full year MRL teams will be made available to all other Celtic players but it will be done a la carte and on a more individualized basis, thereby giving players and families at the white, green, etc... team levels the opportunity for extra training without making it a mandatory program. Beginning with, but not limited to, the following new program being developed and organized by Charlie Bell.

Twenty (20) 90-minute sessions to continue the education of our players on the following: •TACTICAL: Improve attacking/defending principles •TECHNICAL: Accuracy and speed in individual and collective

techniques •PHYSICAL: Improve speed, agility, coordination and balance •PSYCHOSOCIAL: Cooperate with teammates in collective tasks

Sessions will be designed to include the following tactical aspects of the game: !1. Attacking principles 2. Possession 3. Transition 4. Combination play 5. Switching/vision 6. Counter attack

Each session will ask the player to apply the following technical skills: !1. Passing 2. Receiving 3. Dribbling 4. Turning 5. Shooting

7. Playing out of the back 8. Finishing in the final 3rd 9. Defending principles 10. Zonal defending 11. Pressing 12. Shape – staying compact

6. Ball control 7. Heading 8. Finishing 9. Crossing

By the end of the season we’d like to see our players who participated with the extra sessions have better application of technique in game situations and

better application of attacking and defending principles.
