UNIT 106 – BASIC MAKE-UP
Factors to consider
FACTORS
A factor is something that you have to consider when you are planning to provide a make-up to a client
FACE SHAPES
There are 4 basic face shapes., these are – Oval, round, square & oblong
The type of face shape determines where the blusher should be applied.
OVAL FACE SHAPE
Thought of as the perfect face shape
Apply the blusher to just underneath the cheek bones
ROUND FACE SHAPE
Apply blusher in a triangle shape with the base of the triangle running in front of the ear
SQUARE FACE SHAPE
Apply blusher in a circular pattern on the cheek bone
OBLONG FACE SHAPE
Apply blusher along the cheek bone outwards towards the ear.
SKIN, HAIR & EYE COLOUR Skin has either a warm (yellow) base or a cool
(blue/pink) base. Make up must be selected to match the skin colour as
well as the hair & eye colour
SKIN TYPE & TEXTURE Your foundation type needs to be
matched to the skin type.Dry skin – lacking in oil – needs an
oil based foundation.Oily skin – needs a water based
foundation If the skin has a poor texture then a
thicker covering (mousse) is needed. If the skin has a good texture then a
lighter covering is needed
OCCASION The type of the occasion also affects the type of
make-up that is applied. Day make-up Evening make up
FASHION TRENDS Depending on the age of the client – fashion
trends need to be considered
CULTURAL FACTORSDifferent cultures have different
requirements
