Monday, May 14th, 2018 - Director of International Partnership, Mr. Iqbal Djawad, Head of International Office, Ms Karmila Mokoginta, and the Coordinator of French Corner at

UNHAS - Institut Français Indonesia (IFI)agreement for Centre for DELF Examination & French Corner

UNHAS, Ms. Masdiana had a meeting with officials from Institut Français Indonesia (IFI), Mr Benoît Bavouset, Ms. Inès Schmitt, and Mr. Ryan Rinaldy. An agreement will

be made to have UNHAS as one of the centres for DELF exam & to strengthen the establishment of French Corner. More collaborative programs between UNHAS & IFI will be held in the near future.

St. Petersburg State Univ (May 23rd, 2018) - Unhas delegates, including the Rector, Prof. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu, MA and Members of Trustee, Prof. dr. Idrus Paturusi & Prof. Razak Thaha had a discussion at St. Petersburg State Univ with Prof. Sergey Andryshin, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Anastasia Yanush-kevich, Ph.D., Head of the

Office of Vice Rector for International Affairs & Svetlena Banit, Senior Lecturer of Oriental Faculty, Indonesian Dept.

The meeting focused on the plans for educational & research cooperation, especially in Medicine & Social Sciences.

Both sides agreed to have an MoU and hold a long-distance meeting using video conferencing facilities.

UNHAS-JORDANStrengthening Cooperation

On Thursday, 3rd of May 2018, the Ambassador of Denmark for Indonesia, HE Rasmus Abild-gaard Kristensen, visited UNHAS and presented a public lecture in front of about 100 participants. Most of participants are students, researchers and lecturers from Universitas Hasanuddin.

On his welcome remarks, The Director of International Partnership, Ir. Muh. Iqbal Djawad, M.Sc., Ph.D, emphasized the importance of the lecture and he told a joke about his favorite softball player from Denmark.

Ambassador Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen presented a lecture on climate change.

However, at the first session of his lecture, he explained the study opportunity in Denmark.

Regarding climate change, he showed his concern on the forest fire in some forests in Indonesia. As this forest fire contributes significantly on the world air pollution and climate change.

He also suggested Indonesia to change the energy supply such as from wind energy and other renewable energy--hydroponic, hydropower, geothermal & bio-mass.

President of Jordan University of Science and Technology, President of Hashemite Univ and the Arab Institute – Al Quds Al Shareef. These institutions are now in agreement with UNHAS to develop cooperation in the near future. To strengthen this plan, UNHAS has invited HRH Prince El Hassan bin Talal and officials from some universities in Jordan to attend the Celebration of UNHAS anniversary in September 2018.

18th – 25th May, 2018 - Universitas Hasanuddin delegates - including Rector, Vice Rector for Planning and Finance, members of Board of Trustees, deans, professors, and two administrative officials visited Jordan. The main program was the meeting with HRH Prince El Hassan bin Talal of the Hashemite

Kingdom of Jordan to discuss advances in technology and science as well as possibility to have more collaborative programs in the future. Other meetings were held with the Minister of Transport, President of Princess Sumaya University of Technology,

Wednesday, May 9th, 2018 - Six universities from Taiwan participated in the 2018 Taiwan Education Showcase conducted at UNHAS. The event was opened by Head of Rector’s Office, Mr. Suharman Hamzah, who expressed his happiness that

UNHAS had been chosen as the place for the important program. He hoped the event would give UNHAS students and staff a lot of information regarding study opportunities in Taiwan. A representative of Taiwan delegates also gave a brief speech in the opening ceremony. Students and staffs of UNHAS were very enthusi-astic during the exhibition.

Monday, May 21st, 2018 - UNHAS hosted 12 students from National University of Singapore (NUS) in a Short Study Program on Smart City and Sustainable Society. The 12 NUS students, together with 10 UNHAS students, had lectures from 3 UNHAS experts on the main theme from economic, social, and environmental perspectives. There was also a sharing session with a local entreprenur, & an interactive reflection session at the end of the program.

Head of International Office, Ms. Karmila Mokoginta, gave a brief speech saying that it was an honour for UNHAS to host the 12 NUS students in the one-day program, and she hoped that the lectures had given new insights to the students. A representative of the NUS students also gave speech to express his gratitude to UNHAS for the arrangement of the special program.

Public Health Faculty & Monash Univ RISE Research Program

On Monday 28th May 2018, located in room C21, Pathfoot Building, University of Stirling, Sudirman Nasir, S. Ked, MWH, Ph.D, a lecturer and researcher at Faculty of Public Health, UNHAS Has presented a seminar:

“Drug policy in Indonesia: Law amendments but punitive approach remains”. This seminar was a part of a Research seminar series in Faculty of Health Sciences and Sport, University of Stirling. Sudirman Nasir said that

“Indonesia and the Philippines’ “war on drugs” approach is misleading people into thinking that tough laws can deal with all drug-related problems once and forever”. (you can read more on this topic in Sudirman’s article for the Public Policy Forum (Australian National University): “Behind Jokowi and Duterte’s “war on drugs”: Populism and machismo are winning a battle against evidence-based solutions”. Sudirman Nasir, S.Ked, MWH, area of interests are medical anthropology, youth health, risk- taking behaiors and infectious diseases. He frequently writes essays for Indonesian &Interna-tional media & serves as a vice president of the Indonesian Young Academy of Sciences (ALMI).

and a partnership between Monash University and UNHAS, which strengthens the research relationship between Australia & Indonesia as both countries work to achieve 8 (eight) sustainable development goals. Under the coordination of Ansariadi, SKM., MSc.PH., PH.D., as FoPH Unhas focal point, the RISE community health and environmental assessment component will be conducted in 12 major settlements in Makassar and chemical and biophysical laboratory of FoPH. While Dr. Eng. Ihsan Latief, ST., M.T., from The Urban Planning Department of Faculty of Engineering UNHAS will lead the implementation of water sensitive cities or urban water-sensitive approach & community design.

On Monday 9th April 2018, The RISE (Revitalising Informal Settle-ments and Their Environments) research program officially has its offices at Faculty of Public Health (FoPH). The Dean of FoPH, Prof. Dr. drg. Andi Zulkifli, M. Kes, welcomes the big family of RISE Makassar in Unhas. FoPH Unhas was also set up a special lab for

RISE to facilitate examina-tion of environmental sam-ples. “This program will be a challenge for us, hopefully this 5 year project will provide health and environmental improvement and give a better impact to society said Prof. Dr. drg. Andi Zulkifli, M. Kes. RISE is a research program

Directorate of International partnership and The International office in cooperation with MIWF committee and Rumata’ Art Space conducted the World Literature week which was part of Makassar International Writers Festival (MIWF) Goes to Campus: from 2nd to 4th of May 2018. This three-day event was attended by International writers community and also writers and literature lovers from other regions of Indonesia, UNHAS students and lecturers.

At the first day, the event presented a famous artist; Leila S. Chudori who delivered a workshop about her book:

Hosting Makassar International Writers Festival (MIWF)

“Don’t judge a book from its movie: Laut bercerita”, at the beginning of the workshop, Leila presented the movie to participants.

On 3rd of May 2018, Benedicte Gorrillot, a French writer, presented a workshop on “understanding French poetry”, the moderator of this session was Lily Yulianti Farid, the co-founder of MWIF.

Then at the following day, 4th of May 2018, the event presented “the world literature: Japanese”. There were two sessions on this workshop.

The first session was about Fukuhushima and the moderator of this session was Meta Sekar Puji Astuti, S.S., MA., Ph.D , Meta is a lecturer and researcher in Japanese Study Program in UNHAS.

At the first session, Three source persons for this workshop were: Lily Yulianti Farid, Ryoichi Wago, Kazuhisa Matsui,. Ryoichi Wago is the co-founder of The Festival of The future, a community event with arts as the medium to heal the city of Fukushima from traumatic memories of earthquakes, tsunami and nuclear radiation, while Kazuhisa Matsui is a champion of global local initiatives, which focus on regional collaboration. At the second session, speakers shared their insights about the Japanese urban life, with Kazuhisa Matsui as the moderator and there were also three source persons for this session: Prof. Fumio Yoshino who shared about daycare in Japan and his NGO in relation to daycare issues, Meta Sekar Puji Astuti, S.S., MA., Ph.D who talked about her experiences in Haijin PTA (Parent Teacher Association) and Marina Suzuto who gave a brief observation on Japanese Millenials.

During the meeting, the Dean and Curtin University delegates also discussed the opportunity to collaborate for joint publication/joint research activities between 2 institutions. FEB & Curtin are currently preparing an MoU to be signed in order to strengthen the collaboration between the two Institutions in the future.

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2018 - Dean of Faculty of Economics & Business (FEB), Prof. Dr. Rahman Kadir, M.Si., CIPM, received a guest from Curtin University. Two officials from Curtin Univ visited FEB to discuss a cooperation to establish a double degree and study abroad programs for FEB’s International class students.

St. Petersburg State Univ of Architecture & Civil Engi-neering (May 23rd, 2018) - Unhas delegates - led by the Rector, Prof. Dwia and Mem-bers of Trustee, Prof. dr. Idrus and Prof. Razak Thaha – had a discussion at St. Petersburg State Univ of Architecture & Civil Engineering.

As a part of the soft launching, there were also mini display of Japan Corner’s collections in the hallway of Senat room in the 2nd floor of Unhas rectorate building. There were several traditional clothes, children’s games & books displayed at the mini exhibition.

Unhas delegates were accepted by Prof. Irina Robertnova Lugovskaya, 1st Vice Rector and Veronika A. Artemeva Ph.D, Head of the Department of International Education and Cooperation and several other staff members.

The discussion focused on the plans for educational and research cooperation between the two universities, especially in the field of Architects & Engineering. Both sides agreed to have an MoU and hold a long-distance meeting using video conferencing facilities.
