TYPES OF TEAM
TWO PRIMARY GROUPS OF TEAMS
•A. Permanent Teams• These teams perform on a permanent basis and
are not dissolved once the task is accomplished.
•B. Temporary Teams• Temporary teams loose their importance, once
the task is accomplished. Such teams are usually formed for a shorter duration either to assist the permanent team or work when the members of the permanent team are busy in some other project.

•Problem-Solving Teams•a temporary team assembled to solve a specific problem
ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES
ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES~ more information and knowledge is focused on the issue
~ time consuming
~ A greater number and diversity of alternatives can be developed
~ disagreements may delay decisions and cause hard feelings
~ better understanding and acceptance of the final decision
~ one or two group members may dominate discussion
~ members develop knowledge and skills for future use
~ many ideas may be forgotten if no note taking
~ shared responsibility - willing to take more risks

•Self-Managed Work Team•an ongoing group of workers who share a common mission who collectively manage their own affairs within predetermined boundaries.

~ increase employee’s commitment

•Cross Functional Teams• are made up of experts in various specialties (or functions) working together on various organizational tasks.

~ dispute or disagreement in the members
~ enthusiasm in work ~ decision making will be delayed
~ increased scope of learning
~ Mature employees

•Virtual Teams•consist of individuals who are separated by distances and connected through computer. Here individuals communicate with each other online through internet.

~ Eliminates moving expenses
~ Loss of face-to-face synergies

~ Lack of social interaction
~ Allows assignment to multiple teams simultaneously
~ Problem with communication medium
