By the end of this e-lesson, the third grade students will be able to •Name the four types of sentences.•Identify a declarative, imperative, exclamatory, and an interrogative sentence.

What is a Sentence?
• A sentence is a group of words expressing a complete thought.
• A sentence must contain a verb and (usually) a subject.
• A sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop

Types of Sentences
• Declarative Sentence
• Interrogative Sentence
• Exclamatory Sentence
• Imperative Sentence

Declarative Sentence
• Makes a statement, tells something• Ends in a period
Examples1. Timmy is seven years old.2. Today is Tuesday.

Interrogative Sentence
• Asks a question• Ends in a question mark
Examples1. What is your favorite subject?2. How are you?

Exclamatory Sentence
• Shows strong emotion• Ends in an exclamation
point

Imperative Sentence
• Gives a direction, command, or a request
• Ends in a period
