GE Innovation Series MV-GP Type H Drive Description
1. GeneralThe GE Innovation Series MV-GP Type H drive combines a low harmonic distortion, high efficiency power converter with the world-class Innovation Series drive control. The result is a drive that has low harmonics on the supply side and the motor side. It also is compatible with standard motors without the added complication of output filters. The drive has the latest in GE sensorless motor control and drive diagnostic capabilities. These diagnostics allow easy troubleshooting at the drive or permit optional connection to GE’s OnSite remote diagnostic center. The result is a drive with high reliability and versatile motor control capability that can be used on standard induction motors.
This drive can be used on both variable torque and constant torque applications that do not require regeneration to the utility system. Motor tachometers or encoders are not needed except on applications with unusual overload requirements.
2. Air-cooled drive description
2.1 Standard Components and FeaturesThe standard drive has the following features:

2.2 Drive Performance
?16Operating voltage range: -5%/+10% of nominal without derating?17Voltage dip response: Below 70% dc link voltage, torque is shut off; below 60% dc
link voltage, the drive trips. Generally, the drive can withstand a voltage dip of 30% without tripping, though speed droop may occur if output current limit is exceeded.
?18Power loss ride-through of 5 cycles while delivering rated current. Optional power loss ride-through of up to 0.5 sec (control power only)
?19Input frequency: 50 or 60 Hz +/- 5%?20Unit is rated for ambient temperature of 0-40°C, 95% humidity non-condensing, and
maximum 3300 feet above MSL. Derating factors are applied at higher elevations and ambient temperatures.
?21Minimum 98% drive efficiency at full load. Minimum 96.5% combined transformer and drive efficiency at full load with 2300 V (or higher) transformer input voltage.
?22Output frequency 0-120 Hz?23Power cells communicate with Innovation Drive control via fiber optic cables?24Forward and reverse motoring (two quadrant) capability
2.3 Input Harmonic Distortion
?25Input characteristic harmonics are 18-pulse or higher to meet IEEE-519 1992 harmonic current and voltage distortion requirements.
2.4 Motor Compatibility
?26Compatible with standard motors (non-inverter duty) without derating?27Negligible torque harmonics to induce torsional resonances in motor and load?28Common mode voltage protection to prevent motor bearing currents?29No voltage reflections at motor terminals to cause damaging stress on motor
insulation with less than 1 km of cable between inverter and motor?30No special cables are required between drive and utility system or between drive
and motor

2.5 Drive Protective FunctionsThe drive has these protective and diagnostic functions:?31Power cell self-test during power-up initialization?32IGBT test to diagnose failed devices (blocking and switching failures); this test
mode is performed at power-up and can be invoked while not operating?33IGBT de-sat protection?34IGBT failure to block fault?35Power cell dc link overvoltage?36Power cell input fuses(s) blown?37Bypass fuse blown (only in cells with bypass circuit)?38Power cell overtemperature?39Loss of input phase voltage due to blown fuse at transformer primary?40Power cell control power fault?41Capacitor voltage sharing fault?42Bypass command not acknowledged (only in power cells with bypass circuit)?43Communication link failure (detected at either power cell control or master link
board)?44Drive output short circuit protection?45Ground fault protection for output cabling and motor?46Cooling system failure (alarm and trip conditions)?47Diagnostic capture buffer?48Alarm, fault logs?49Power cell status available from within Control System Toolbox?50Standard Innovation Series motor protection functions, including:
?51motor overload, overspeed, and overvoltage

2.6 Air-cooled Drive Options
Feature CommentsRedundant fan Fans are operated alternately for equal
operating time. Alarm is generated if either fan does not start and the other fan is operated. If neither fan will operate, the drive shuts down.
Automatic power cell bypass Reduced voltage operation; power cell fault is detected by control, bypass command generated by control, sent to affected power cell stage
Redundant cell Provides an extra power cell in each phase that operates all the time. Full power operation is possible with one stage of power cells out.
Motor RTD monitor Available modules: Minco monitor, Multilin 269+, or Multilin 469+Modules mount in control enclosure door.
