If you think about it, the craft of typography is little

more than the combination of three very simple things: attention to detail, common

sense and visual acuity. Sure, there are typo-graphic rules and guidelines, but they are, for

the most part, just based on what is sensible and pleasing to the eye. Learning to identify the parts

of a character may increase a designer’s business vocabulary, and knowing the lineage of Garamond designs may aid in the choosing of a good modern revival of the face, but the real key to typographic

success is basically just “sweating the details” and a simple coordination of mind and eye.

WHY IS TYPE

Typography is always important because presentation is always important. Just like a gesture can punctuate a point in discussion, good typography can reinforce the meaning

of your text.

Good typography helps your reader move beyond your words and into your meaning. That said, bad typography can mislead your reader and undermine your meaning. Good

typography equals good communication. Good communication equals potential

influence with your target group.

5For this project we were asked to choose a saying that we liked and could associate ourselves with. I then added graphics to bring the text and meaning of the saying

together in a creative way.

For this project we had to choose a theme that interests us and find text in images

that corresponded to it. I chose to find text images relating to soccer because of my

background with the sport. In order to see the letters more clearly I blurred out the rest of the picture and only used the part of the image that created a letter. From

top to bottom the letters are M, I, A, W, and J.

For this project we were instructed to choose an image of a person and

construct a font portrait. I chose a picture of myself and illustrated my

URL website which is www.workofgf.com.

For this project we were instructed to take a meaningful saying and then find a place

that best illistrated the message of the saying.I chose the saying by michael jordan “ I want to become the bridege to the next generation.” The reason why I picked this saying is because it is very meaningful to

me and I as well and to be the best I can be and change the world in the future with my

ideas and innovations.

I wanted to show this in a comical way by showing an elemtary students love note. I chose to use the two classic fonts that are always mixed up, but put a funny twist on

it by crossing out “love” and writing “never” because Helvetica is better than Arial.

This is another poster I created in order to show off my different styles of typography. The well known saying “ I like my coffee how I like my...” I thought it was funny so I changed it to fit towards typography and

added additional graphics to bring the whole poster together.

About the

AuthorI am a graduating La Salle University student, studying Digital Art & Multimedia, and a minor in Marketing. At La Salle I was a varsity crew member that gave my all when it came to competition and I still imply that same motivation in my every day life. I also find a lot of enjoyment in my social life. Which includes outdoor adventures, hanging out at so-cial events, and working hard to fulfill my dreams. I love to interact with people in order to gain new ideas and start up my creative juices. Work-ing on the computer or old fashion drawling is how I try to come up with different designs and innovations.

I love creating motion graphics as well as web graphics. I am currently getting my BA in arts and sciences and am very excited to start my career after I graduate in May 2013. I would like to find a job that not only challenges me but also teaches me and helps me grow as a profes-sional designer, which is my ultimate personal goal.
