I am proud to be involved with this program and can honestly say that the Rohde & Schwarz NAVICS® system fulfills the communications needs of any navy and enables it to conduct operations more efficiently, effectively and securely." Dan Astley, Business Development Manager Naval Systems, Rohde & Schwarz UK DESIGNED WITH TOMORROW IN MIND The Royal Navy’s Type 26 frigate will replace the Type 23 frigate as a versatile multi-mission warship designed to support anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and air defense as well as humanitarian, aid and disaster relief work. The frigate will protect the nation’s strategic deterrent and new Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers from hostile submarines. THE COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM: NAVICS® Under a contract from BAE Systems, Rohde & Schwarz will equip the Royal Navy’s Type 26 frigates with secure external communications systems built around NAVICS®. The systems interconnect the distributed on-board voice terminals as well as all other subsystems for internal and external communications via a uniform IP network. The communications systems use ruggedized, conventional IT technology with accreditable security provided by Rohde & Schwarz. REDUCING NOISE POLLUTION NAVICS® features a revolutionary wireless communications system that minimizes noise pollution and improves the quality of life on board. REVOLUTIONARY SHIPBORNE COMMUNICATIONS AT YOUR FINGERTIPS – ANYTIME AND ANYWHERE NAVICS® revolutionizes on-board communications by enabling freedom of movement throughout the ship. It features smartphone-like ATEX wireless handhelds for uninterrupted, high-quality voice communications on the move. The intuitive graphical user interfaces (GUI) allow the operator to access all voice and data communications easily and securely. ADVANTAGES OF A MODERN IP BASED COMMUNICATIONS SOLUTION NAVICS® is a secure and fully IP based system solution for internal and external voice and data communications that enables powerful red/black separation up to multilevel security. This supports on-board networks that have various security levels. The Type 26 will specialize in anti-submarine warfare, supporting air defense and protecting the UK‘s overseas territories and interests across the globe. The Type 26 is the first naval platform shared between the UK and for export in Australia and Canada.
