THINGS TO KNOW WHILEVISITING TYBEE ISLAND

1. Preserve Tybee’s beauty by leaving only your footprints. Please dispose of your trash properly. Tybee fines for uncontained litter on the beach.

2. There is no such thing as a free parking space on Tybee. Make sure to pay the meters... or better yet leave your car at your vacation home and rent bikes to get around the island or use one of the island shuttles.

3. Beach rules include no glass or breakable containers, litter, pets, fires, and please do not disturb the dune areas. Surf-boarding and fishing are only allowed in designated zones.

4. Beware of the sandbar at the South end of Tybee near the 18th and 19th Street cross-overs. It looks like a fun walk but it is an extreme drowning risk!

5. Beware of Rip Currents. If caught don’t fight the current. Swim away from the beach then parallel to the beach until you escape. Never swim alone.

6. To-Go Cups: On Tybee you are allowed to possess alco-hol outdoors as long as it is in a plastic container or can - absolutely no glass. Have Fun & Be Safe!

SHELL COLLECTINGCollecting shells is a fun pastime for people of all ages. Finding a unique piece or a completly intact shell can be thrilling! With so many types, colors and sizes you can collect shells your whole life and never have every type. You can collect them in jars, use them for decor or even use them for beach-related crafts. But before you can display them you have to find them.

There are many tricksto finding the “perfect”shell so we have gathered a few of the best and cre-ated a list of helpful tips to start you on your shell-collecting adventure. Enjoy the search! And just remember, if you find some-thing with its inhabitant still residing in it, leave it alone.

Shell Finding Tips:• Observe a tide chart for the day. The best time to search is an hour before and after a low tide. During a full moon or new moon time period the tides are the most extreme and it makes shelling even better.• Right after an ocean storm many shells are washed up on shore. If you’re able to go safely onto the beach then this is the perfect time.• Everyone loves a sand dollar, but unless they are white or light gray, they are alive. The brown ones with hair-like spines are alive and should never be taken.• Many specimens do look alike so bring a field book to help you identify your finds.• Learn about the variety of shells that you can find in the area that you are visiting so you will know what to look for during your search.

Not every beach has one of the most celebrated historic districts as its neighbor. Head into Savannah to enjoy the best of the old and new with a variety of art, music, and historical experiences available.

HISTORIC SAVANNAH MUST-DO’STake a tour of the city and discover the abundance of charm and beauty... or have a ghostly experience. We recommend Old Savannah Tours or take a Bonaventure Cemetery Tour.

Savor the flavor of the city by visiting one of the many great restaurants. With so many to choose from it is hard to pick a favorite. Don’t miss City Market and the surrounding unique galleries and shops filled with treasures.

Park the car and walk the city. Savannah is one of the greenest, most pedestrian friendly cities in America. Visit some of the 22 beautiful park like squares or take a stroll down the cobble-stones on River Street and watch the ships. TIP: Parking is free along the streets of Savannah after 5pm on weekdays and all day Saturday and Sunday.

Some musts for families include visiting the Jepson Cent-er’s hands-on ArtZeum, the Savannah Children’s Museum’s Imagination Station, and the Georgia Railroad Museum.

SAVANNAH’S NIGHTLIFE

If you like to have a good time, you are in the right place. Savannah is not just known for its history, architecture, and food - let’s face it – Savannah is also known as a drinking town. Pedestrians have the ability to take a “Go Cup” on the city streets, and the Bars stay open until 3:00 am, so there is plenty of opportunity to party the night away. Live music can be found around every corner on River Street, City Market, or in one of the many downtown watering holes. Savannah nightlife is truly legendary, and not just on St. Patrick’s Day, so enjoy a cocktail at a dance club, a haunted pub crawl, or a pint at one of the many local pubs, bars, or taverns. Don’t forget to dine during your nighttime excursion - Savannah bars and restaurants have some of the best food in the south. Cheers to happy times in Savannah!
