The angry skies above Marbella, Spain, may have drenched the gathered moto-journalists, but they still returned home with plenty of good impressions from the latest MT-07:

Cycle World® Magazine (Mar. 2018)• “At $7,599, it’s a massive overachiever. As a turnkey daily

rider, a racebike project, a first bike, or a thirtieth bike, the MT-07 transcends its categorization. It’s not a budget bike; it’s a bargain bike.”

• “The revised seat is one of the first things noticeable on the ’18 MT-07. I think it looks better than the original, but more importantly, it’s all-day comfortable. It has plenty of squish and a supportive shape.”

• “Great-handling chassis, comfy ergos, and thoroughly vetted suspension aside, the engine remains the MT’s party piece. It’s a laugh-inside-your-helmet kind of motor.”

Rider Magazine (Mar. 2018)• “When it comes to bang-for-the-buck value, sharp looks and

good, old-fashioned fun, the MT-07 delivers in spades.”

• “The snarling mill sounds great, power delivery is predictable and linear, and the smooth-shifting 6-speed transmission has ratios specifically chosen to eliminate the need for freq uent shifting.”

• “On most test rides, I would lavish praise on the feistiness of the MT-07’s engine, but on this rainy day I was grateful for its linear torque curve. The parallel twin delivered enough grunt at low rpm to let me stay in a higher gear, reducing

the chance of rear wheel slip as we negotiated the never-ending curves.”

RevZilla® (Mar. 2018)• “This really is the ultimate fun machine.”

• “[Yamaha] designed the MT-07 to excite the expert rider, while offering an easy-to-use, forgiving platform for younger riders with less experience.”

• “. . . the MT is nimble on its feet and flicks from edge to edge with almost nothing more than a mere thought.”

• “The increased spring rates and damping changes that Yamaha has made to the [MT-07 suspension] pay dividends for the handling, too, offering more support under hard braking as well as on the edge of the tire.”

Bike-urious (Mar. 2018)• “The MT-07 was already good: cheap to buy, easy to approach,

and fun to ride. The same applies for 2018, but it’s even better.”

• “The crossplane concept 270 degree crankshaft and offset cylinders come together to form a parallel twin motor that actually excites me (which is something I don’t say often).”

• “My 6'2", 190-pound frame is a little tall for this bike but I appreciated how compact everything was—particularly the narrowness of the tank where it meets the seat. That sensation helps me feel like I’m part of the bike, not necessarily just riding on top of it.”

In dealerships across the country, factory-trained technicians serve on the

front lines of customer service, ensuring that Yamaha’s many products are

maintained and cared for to the highest level possible. Now, it’s time to see who’s

the best of the best, the “Taop Guns" of the Yamaha service network!

Held every two years, the United States Technician Grand Prix is a competition to find the top technicians in the entire na-tional dealer network. Finalists come from across the country, from dealerships large and small, but all are the top performers from their respective Yamaha Technical Academy Gold Level training classes. Each of these technicians achieved the highest scores in their Gold classes, held between the fall of 2016 and the spring of 2018.

For those not familiar with Yamaha's training programs, YTA Gold is an intense five-day, hands-on training class that focuses on ad-vanced problem-solving techniques utilizing Yamaha's latest computerized diagnostic tools, with an aim to present challenging, real-world scenarios and solutions. Any tech-nician that reaches this level and passes their final examinations deserves recognition.

However, the 18 technicians below are not just certified Gold-level experts, they are the most skilled technicians in the country, and they—and their dealerships—should be very proud of their accomplishments.

NIKEN promises to be a riding revolution that boosts rider confidence thanks to its radical Leaning Multi-Wheel (LMW) front suspension system. But the LMW system brings a range of new technology that might not be familiar to many riders. Let’s check out the latest tech feature video and explore the concepts at work...

Ackerman Steering GeometryWith two front wheels steering a vehicle through a turn, the outside wheel is going to be traveling across a larger radius circle than the inside wheel. If both wheels steered at the same angle, either the inside wheel or the outside wheel wouldn't be tracking the correct arc of the corner, which could easily reduce traction and control.

The solution is Ackerman geometry, originally patented to solve the same problem on horse-drawn carriages. In an Ackerman system, each wheel is steered on its own pivot, slightly offset from the center of the wheel hub. The resulting difference in steering angles for the two front wheels ensures that each wheel following the ideal path through a corner for maximum control, steering feel and grip.

Parallelogram LinkThe parallelogram linkage design in Yamaha's LMW system ensures that both front wheels and fork assembles remain properly aligned across the entire range of motion. The challenge was creating a system that was stiff enough to maintain excllent chassis rigidity and good steering feel that was also light and compact enough for the compact dimensions of a motorcycle. The NIKEN meets these goals

with natural steering feel and a full 45 degree of lean angle.

Dual-Tube ForksOne of the most unique visual features on the NIKEN are its twin fork sets controlling each front wheel. By combining a pair of large diameter inverted forks, the alignment of each front wheel is precisely maintained without reverting to additional hub and linkage sets, thereby reducing unsprung weight and improving wheel tracking and bump absorption. The front fork leg is also a lightweight “dummy” leg for alignment, while the rear fork leg controls damping and spring adjustments. And thanks to the outboard fork placement, the front wheels maintain a tight 16.1-inch track between the front contact patches. For reference, the ultra narrow YZF-R6® is over 24 inches wide!

Hybrid FrameHolding everything together is a new hybrid frame developed especially for NIKEN. Crafted from steel castings and tubing as well as Yamaha's advanced aluminium casting technology, the frame ensures ideal rigidity balance that works with the unique LMW front syuspension system and provides a nearly perfect 50/50 weight distribution with a rider aboard, for light, neutral handling feel.

Designed to optimize the unique advan-tages—including immediate low-end torque and responsiveness—associated with electric powertrains, the new TY-E will compete for the first time in the 2018 FIM® Trial-E Cup, with scheduled appearances at Auron in France on July 14-15, and at Comblain au Pont in Bel-gium on July 21-22. Kenichi Kuroyama (All Japan Trial Championship compet-itor) will represent the Yamaha Factory Racing Team during 2018.

Featuring advanced new technology, the TY-E has come straight from the company's “Evolving R&D” pro-gram, in which Yamaha R&D employees are given the opportunity to work outside the usual 9-to-5 and devote a fraction of their working hours towards developing innovative new concepts.

Yamaha focused on the needs of trials competition, and worked on its devel-opment to help overcome typical EV development issues. R&D employees addressed challenges such as obtain-ing the high output from small-sized and lightweight components and har-nessing high torque output in order to create an easy, responsive, and con-trollable riding character.

POWERADVANTAGE

Generators are the perfect accessory for a trackday with a YZF-R6® supersport or week long adventure aboard a Wolverine X4, thanks to Yamaha’s top-notch engineering found inside every EF20 Sv2. Check out why!

1. The EF2000iSv2 powers a wider range of applications and improves the ownership experience by allowing users to run high-draw appliances (like hair dryers, microwaves, and more) for significantly longer.

2. It’s quiet. With Yamaha’s Noise Block technology and super quiet muffler (outputting only 51.5 dBA at ¼ load), the EF2000iSv2 leaves an even lighter footprint at the campsite or pit lane.

3. It’s lightweight, weighing in at 44 pounds, which makes it super easy to transport

4. It’s fuel efficient thanks to the Smart Throttle™ system, which varies engine speed based on load.

5. Yamaha generators have the longest emission engine durability ratings issued by the Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board.

6. It comes standard with the top-notch Yamaha Warranty: a full 3 years, with option to purchase up to 3 more years of Y.E.S. (Yamaha Extended Service) coverage.

7. It’s a Yamaha, which means it comes standard with a range of convenience and reliability features rarely found together: fuel petcock, fuel gauge, Smart Throttle, electrical overload breaker, Oil Watch Warning System, and Yamaha’s high-performance TwinTech™ “daisy chaining.”

Real-world research, buyer feedback and plain old common sense say the best way to check out a new vehicle is taking a proper test ride. But sometimes—especially with off-road bikes, side-by-sides and ATVs—taking a test ride isn't as easy as trying out a new car or truck.

Enter six-time AMA® National Champion Jason Raines, and his Raines Riding University program. As one of Yamaha's foremost dealer demo partners, Raines and his team travel across the country to give customers the opportunity to try out some of the latest Yamaha dirt bikes, ATVs and side-by-sides, all in real world environments.

The Yamaha Real World Experience demo program recently visited the Durhamtown Off Road Resort in Union Point, Georgia, with a trailer full of the latest side-by-side and ATV models. Here's what riders and drivers had to say after their demo runs:

“I love the X4, it’s very user friendly and I can bring a bunch of my friends along for the ride!”

“The Sport Shift YXZ® handled great, it would be awesome in high speed trails!”

“The Kodiak 700 was like riding a 4x4 Cadillac®, it had power to spare and handled great!”

“I loved everything about the Wolverine X4!”

“I was surprised by the plush ride of the Grizzly® 700.”

covers the difference between a vehicle loan and the cash value if some-thing like a theft or total loss takes the vehicle out of commission.

In the event your vehicle is stolen, accidently damaged beyond repair, or otherwise declared a total loss, your primary insurance will only cover the vehicle’s current cash value in most cases, leaving you responsible for any shortfall between the insurance settlement and the remaining loan balance. This deficiency—or “gap”—can easily amount to thousands of dollars that you would still owe.

The solution is simple.

Yamaha offers GAP protection which covers the difference between your vehicle insurance settlement and the amount owed on the loan in the event of a total loss. Plus, GAP waives your insurance deductible, up to a $500.

Yamaha GAP not only decreases your financial exposure, but also pro-vides you with additional security. GAP can only be purchased at the time of sale and is available through all Yamaha Finance options, making it easy to add to a new vehicle purchase.

With Yamaha GAP, you can ensure that you have peace of mind and pro-tection from the unexpected, keeping your cash flow intact in the event that something doesn't go as planned. Check out Yamaha GAP the next time you visit a Yamaha dealership to learn even more.

Yamaha GAP is not available in: Colorado, Hawaii, Indiana, Louisi-ana, Massachusetts, New York, and South Carolina.

Yamaha GAP Coverage Yamaha Mail VIP

Regarding the program itself, there are two key attributes of the Yamaha VIP Program that have proven successful: personalization and its con-sistency. You can expect letters to be delivered on key dates related to customers needs, such as servicing dates and key anniversaries. It's a great way to keep channels open to remind riders of their vehicle’s needs and the connection they share with their local dealership.

Keeping communication flowing is a great benefit for both riders and dealerships, to ensure that Yamaha products get the attention they de-serve to keep running at their best, and to give customers a chance to catch up on the latest product and accessories that fuel the powersports industry for all of us. Darrin at New York Yamaha had the following praise for this program:

“As a very large seller of Yamaha motorsports, at NY Yamaha, we re-alize that there are a number of factors that fuel our sales growth and customer satisfaction. One of those factors is our use of the Yamaha VIP Program. While many of our customers come to our showroom on a frequent basis, many do not. Particularly for these customers it is of utmost importance to keep in touch with them, in a hope that when they do require assistance, that NY Yamaha is the dealership that first comes to mind. VIP allows us to reach out to all of our customers, keeping NY Yamaha first on their mind.”

Yamaha believes that success comes from working together, and aims to make sure dealers are taking advantage of Yamaha VIP and all of its features. The entire industry benefits from happy customers who return for more business, and customers get the opportunity to engage and get educated on the latest developments in their passion.
