of. We’re the nuts and bolts of global radio ministry. But, our infrastructure and services enhance the work of so many ministries that I’m sure you have heard about.

I think of Charles Price’s Living Truth broadcasts, Dr. J. Vernon McGee’s Thru The Bible series, Charles Stanley’s In Touch programs, Billy Graham’s Hour of Decision, Woodrow Kroll’s Back to the Bible and other media ministries like Leading the Way, The Word Today, Back to God Hour, Insight for Living, Words of Hope, and so many others.

What would their reach be if they had to find translators, producers and distribution outlets themselves? TWR’s global infrastructure allows organizations to have effective international ministry with less cost and effort.

I am also excited that TWR is constantly expanding its own programs and projects. Project Hannah, Seminary on the Air, Discipleship Essentials, and the distribution of media players are some of the projects making a life-changing difference around the world.

primary tool used to inform populations about health, sanitation, and important news.

Radio is available to the illiterate, the blind, and the immobile. Radio opens the world to those who can’t or won’t read, who are trapped in their own homes, or who struggle with a handicap. Radio is portable with many models available using alternate sources of power (solar, battery). It is a medium easily gathered around and shared. Radio doesn’t require a computer, tablet or phone with an Internet connection or wifi capability. Radio is ministry without borders speaking hope to the world... reaching anyone, anywhere, anytime.

Zari was very distraught when her husband died. How would she support herself and her teenage daughter? While travelling from her village to the city, a kind lady sat next to her on the bus and Zari* confided that she was very sad and lonely. Her fellow traveller suggested she find solace and advice through a nightly radio program.

After listening to the Persian Christian radio program for a year, Zari and her daughter became followers of Jesus Christ. There were no other Christians in their village, but their faith grew by listening to the radio programs. Four years later, they were overjoyed to participate in a Bible conference.

Why Radio?

Persian Ministry UpdateIn 1979, the people of Iran were promised that their country would be ruled with justice and that everyone could enjoy peace and prosperity. Sadly, the reality is very different today. In June 2013, Iran’s director of crime prevention expressed deep concern over the increasing crime rate in Iran. It was reported that 1.5 million people were arrested in 2012. 600,000 of those were imprisoned for crimes such as theft, assaults, possession of drugs, drug abuse, murder, rape, and conversion to Christianity.

Yes, becoming a Christian is a crime, and it’s punished more severely if the person is caught proselytizing. Jesus

continues to build His Church in Iran despite the imprisoning and torturing of Christians, the closing of evangelical churches, the burning of Bibles, the threatening of converts with the death penalty, the blocking of Persian Christian websites, and the jamming of Christian radio programs.

Please pray that believers in Iran would trust in the Lord and, “…Be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8 NIV

Equipping Chinese BelieversSeminary on the Air (SOTA) is TWR’s seminary-level training program for Chinese believers and church leaders in China and around the world. It provides an intensive three-year course of study through radio broadcasts, online classes, and supplementary teaching. SOTA has already equipped over 1,000 lay leaders and church pastors to lead with Biblical doctrine and life application.

I decided to join SOTA and within 10 months I completed 14 of the 22 courses. I applied what I learned from SOTA in my church and have laid a good foundation in my faith. I learned the qualities of a good servant and that serving God is a calling from God. I learned about serving by faith. The testimonies of missionaries have touched my heart deeply. I learned about how to care for the members of my church, and the role of a teacher. May God continue to give me wisdom and ability so that I can finish the remaining courses and graduate this year. I am willing to submit to the Spirit and say, “Here am I, send me.”

Wang, a SOTA student from Richmond Hill, Ontario.

SOTA UpdateIn the beginning of 2013, a five-member SOTA team was created to care for the six existing SOTA centres in China.

Meeting with the SOTA staff in China in May

The recently launched SOTA website has finished its test phase. Promotion began in June and we expect to enroll more students in the coming months. There are already over three hundred students enrolled, and we hope to reach 900 by the end of the year.

Meeting with SOTA online staff in Hong Kong in May

This year, the complete SOTA program will begin to be loaded onto MP3 players. This will give SOTA graduates the ability to review what they have learned at any time. The cost of this great resource will be approximately $20 each.

The SOTA MP3 player sample

The printing of new student textbooks is planned for later this year. All the needed textbooks should be printed by the end of 2014. The team is busy editing, proofreading and typesetting, and the first two volumes with 7 courses should be completed soon.

At the present time, there are over 1,300 SOTA students worldwide from China, Germany, Japan, and Canada.

Expansion to Singapore and Hong Kong is planned for the near future.

You can support SOTA by sponsoring a student.Contact TWR to find out more.

Surprises from Cuba!

A hot hug from Cuba! It is hot and humid here, and I am missing Canada! It was a joy to meet many of you in the past year in Alberta, Saskatchewan

and Ontario during the TWR ministry event tours.

The Holy Spirit is moving in a very special way in Cuba, and He is using TWR to reach every corner of the island. We receive about 200 letters from listeners every month. Many of them are new believers.

I recently spoke to pastors, missionaries and home church leaders in Camagüey. Many had physical disabilities, some were blind, but they all serve the Lord with joy. Many identified themselves as TWR listeners. I met Luis Ramirez there. He’s a home church leader who is blind. “We met Christ listening to TWR, and we have been very blessed by the program “Messages of Faith and Hope.” Now we have a church in our home, and we disciple our people with the materials we receive from you and TWR…I have prayed daily for you and TWR.” But the biggest surprise was still ahead. Isis, a Roman Catholic teacher who I had seen leading a class the day before, got up and said: “Pastor, when I saw you yesterday I didn’t know who you were. If I had, I would have invited you into my class because I was teaching to my Bible Study group from your book “Living the Gospel.” Because of your book, we listen to you and TWR every night! Our knowledge of the Christian faith has improved and changed completely. Can you send us more material to use in our class?” The impact of TWR in Cuba is much more than we imagined!

In His service,

Alberto Gonzalez, TWR Cuba Ministry Director

TWR Canada’s partnership with Quebec’s Aujourd’hui l’Espoir ministry helps us achieve a common goal: reach the world’s French-speaking population with the Gospel. Réjean Joly, one of the team members in Quebec, is now a full-time evangelist and has travelled to France, Switzerland, the Ivory Coast, and Israel for training, networking, and to promote the Hope for the Heart program. We thank God as He blesses efforts to encourage Quebec Christians to pool their resources together to maximize their evangelism efforts within the province and to French-speaking people around the world.

Speaking Hope to Quebec:In partnership with Aujourd’hui l’Espoir, TWR Canada delivers a broadcast of translated Charles Price’s Living Truth programs on the third largest radio station in Quebec. The station reaches 200,000 people in the Trois Rivieres region, stretching from the suburbs of Quebec City to the outskirts of Montreal. The city of Montreal is reached with a weekly broadcast on WCHP radio. Also, our Thru The Bible French language broadcasts were downloaded or streamed from the Quebec ministry website 50,271 times in 2012. We are currently on pace to double that number in 2013. And, our television ministry in Quebec now has a weekly audience of over 90,000, the highest it’s ever been. God is blessing the Quebec ministry.

French Language Outreach

Festival of Hope Choir

DieuradioDieuradio is a new web radio program planned for airing in September that will broadcast news, promote events, and air Christian programming. Less than one per cent of the Quebec population considers themselves evangelical Christians.

Global ResponseThe ministry targets French-speaking Quebec, but listener responses are being received from a variety of French-speaking countries including France, the Ivory Coast, Togo, and Benin.

Festival de l’espoir: The Quebec team is ready for the Festival de l’espoir (Festival of Hope) organized in the Franche-Comté region in eastern France (a potential audience of over 1 million). Their Gospel and theatre group, Choeur d’espoir, will visit ten towns. The 41 member group of Quebecois and French Christians will be working together in this major evangelization effort. Pray for the team as they witness and proclaim the Word.

Congres Mondial Acadien:Our Quebec partner has been invited to organize spiritual activities during the World Acadian Congress in New Brunswick. The New Brunswick government is hosting the celebration, and by God’s Grace evangelical Christians were selected to coordinate the spiritual activities. The Lord is opening doors, and the team is confident that there will be many blessings as Christians from Quebec, Canada, France, the U.S.A. and New Brunswick join forces for this evangelistic project reaching the French-speaking people of New Brunswick.

Bringing Hope to Hurting Women

Africa Update

Around the world, women are abused, sold, and killed. Project Hannah, TWR’s ministry to women, believes that the solution to this cycle of oppression and violence is Biblical. Through Project Hannah, Christ’s message of hope is being shared, and women are learning Biblical truths and experiencing transformed lives.

“I’m a believer, but my husband is against my faith. One day he pulled me out of church by my hair and beat me. Although I was in pain, I felt peace in my heart. I didn’t cry at all. All the things that he has done – again and again – could never prevent me from worshipping God! I had received the precious teaching from Ephesians 4:32 to rid my heart of bitterness. Now my husband does not prevent me from going to church, even though he’s still against my faith. I continue to pray for his salvation. Through my experiences, I can relate to the plight of women elsewhere. I can identify with their struggle. Using Project Hannah’s global prayer calendar, I pray for women around the world.”

Project Hannah AfricaProject Hannah has been producing and airing two distinct Women of Hope programs in Portuguese for audiences in Angola and Mozambique. To maximize the reach of the Portuguese programs with the same financial commitment, we’ve partnered with Project Hannah Africa to train a production team in Mozambique to develop one version of the program that would speak hope to the Portuguese speaking people in all of Africa.

We will continue to air the program in Angola and Mozambique, but are now able to use it in other Portuguese-speaking African countries as well. With an estimated 14 million Portuguese speakers in Africa, we believe this one change will have a big impact! Praise God that more lives can experience the hope of Jesus Christ.

Tools For Wise LeadershipThe Christian church in Africa is growing rapidly but lacks Biblically-grounded leaders. The lack of solid leadership has resulted in corruption, abuse, and false doctrine. Tools For Wise Leadership is a program designed to build, develop, and equip leaders. The program is produced by Dr. Roy Musasiwa, who says, “We believe that Africa’s biggest need is for leaders of integrity who are capable, who fear God, who are trustworthy and who hate a dishonest gain.” (Exodus 18:21)

BurundiTWR Canada funds two programs in the KiRundi language. Good News For All is a one-hour show that preaches a Biblical message, and staff regularly receive phone calls and text messages from listeners. Jesus Is The Answer is a 30-minute program aired weekly targeting spiritual, moral, and social development of youth. Many have come to follow Jesus through this program. These are two of TWR Burundi’s most listened to programs and reach a potential 10 million listeners.

MozambiqueIt’s been impossible for missionaries to bring the Gospel to many people groups in Mozambique due to a 20-year civil war resulting in over 900,000 deaths and another 5 million displaced peoples. Words of Hope is broadcast in the Lomwe and Makhuwa languages to reach unbelievers as well as teach and encourage Christians. Over 300 churches have been started through Words of Hope broadcasts.
