Ancient Egyptian Beliefs

Ancient Egyptians believed that there

was a life after death called the'afterlife.' They believed that theafterlife was a '#ield of 2eeds' wherepeople would live forever withoutsickness or death.

3ut not everybody was able to reachthe afterlife. 4nly people who were

good were allowed into the afterlife. And so, to prove they were good, thedead were put on trial.

The 5od Anubis &who had the head of a $ackal( brought the dead person to the-all of the 6ead. There, Anubisweighed the dead person's heart to seeif it was heavier than the '#eather ofTruth.' 7f a person was good then theirheart was lighter than the feather.

-owever, if a person had done many evilthings, their heart was heavier. 7n thatcase, the demon Ammit &who had thehead of a crocodile and body of a hippoand lion( ate the heart and the personcould not enter the afterlife.

#inally, if a person had a light heart, they were brought before the gods andhad to declare that they had done noevil in life. They had to swear they hadkilled nobody or committed no evil. 4nlythen could they enter the afterlife.
