Starng out just north of Seale, Phillips has already logged more than 5,000 miles on his Harley, spreading the word about the organizaon. The organizaon helps injured soldiers recover, whether that be physically or emoonally, once they return from combat. "I raised four kids in a very peaceful situaon because of them," he said. He's doing it all out of love for our country. "Howard's story is a lile unique because he's somebody who's a cizen, not a veteran, and he's out there raising money to do this," said John Tabar, of Naples Harley-Davidson. One of Phillips' stops was at the Naples Harley-Davidson Sunday. "What i'm recommending is people take one dollar for each year they've enjoyed their freedom, and contribute it to the wounded warrior project," said Phillips. Phillips will hit Everglades City before heading back up the east coast to visit Columbia, Boston and Minneapolis as part of his 10-city tour. The ride hasn't always been easy. "Coming through some of the Florida rain has been memorable," he exclaimed. But he says it's all worth it for our men and women in uniform. "It's my 12,000 mile ride to say thanks!" TWO WHEELS, ONE ENGINE, ZERO LIMITS

July, 2015

Fellow Kiwanian Howard Phillips is still trekking across the United States. He hit the news recently and was interviewed by an NBC affiliate out of Naples, Florida. Excerpted below is his interview:

Out on the road, Howard Phillips is quite the sight. The Washington native's bike is stacked sky high

with stickers, wrist bands, and pledge cards, as he treks across the country, city to city, raising mon-

ey for the Wounded Warrior Project.

"90 percent of us never served in the military, and if it wasn't for those guys and gals that put on a

uniform and carry a gun, our life would be totally different," he said.

Starting out just north of Seattle, Phillips has already logged more than 5,000 miles on his Harley,

spreading the word about the organization. The organization helps injured soldiers recover, whether

that be physically or emotionally, once they return from combat.

"I raised four kids in a very peaceful situation because of them," he said.

He's doing it all out of love for our country.

"Howard's story is a little unique because he's somebody who's a citizen, not a veteran, and he's out

there raising money to do this," said John Tabar, of Naples Harley-Davidson.

One of Phillips' stops was at the Naples Harley-Davidson Sunday.

"What i'm recommending is people take one dollar for each year they've enjoyed their freedom, and

contribute it to the wounded warrior project," said Phillips.

Phillips will hit Everglades City before heading back up the east coast to visit Columbia, Boston and

Minneapolis as part of his 10-city tour. The ride hasn't always been easy.

"Coming through some of the Florida rain has been memorable," he exclaimed.

But he says it's all worth it for our men and women in uniform.

"It's my 12,000 mile ride to say thanks!"

Thanks Howard, we are proud of you.

AND…..TO OUR CLUB MEMBERS, HAVE A SAFE AND FUN 4TH OF JULY WEEKEND.

Steve Conklé, Rex Caldwell It was great to get out to Camp Killoqua

and get some much needed painting

accomplished. Last year, the club

scheduled a work day but had to cancel

due to weather. However, the crew

this year was able to really put their

stamp on the place, and voila! Job Well

Done. Jon Van Gerpen was on site, but

in a different location (thanks Jon)

HP Clubhouse

Our club was pleased to award fifteen very worthy students from Kamiak High School,

Mariner High School and ACES with scholarships this year. In attendance was Mukilteo School

Board Member Michael Simmons who presented a wonderful speech and thanked our club

for the support and efforts we put forth to help further the education of our local youth.

Fellow Kiwanian and also School Board Member Ron Johnson was on hand to share in the

moment.

Scholarship Co-Chair Julie Martin presented

students with $500 each. (some students

are not pictured due to scheduling conflicts)

A special thank you to the Scholarship

Committee (Tom Nielson, Co-Chair, Beth

Kerwin, Layli Lewis, and Scott Whelpley)

who spent time reviewing applications and

selecting students this year. The committee

had to narrow the choices from 34 to 15!

This is one of the reasons our club works

hard all year; so that we can share in the

future success of our young people.

To round out the meeting, Lt. Governor

Gary Wolfe and six members from the Lake

Stevens Kiwanis joined us, making this an

inter-club event. Awesome!
