    Lesson 2 Reflection

The students were to play a Tic-Tac-Toe game with a partner. The students would

choose a box, just like regular Tic-Tac-Toe, but they would have to solve the equation in

that box. Then the other person would have to check that answer and agree in order for

them to be able to mark it. I know that the students get very competitive so I decided to

make this topic into a game to make it more enjoyable for the students.

I went over a few practice problems with the students just to make sure that the

students would have too many problems or come across too many obstacles. There

were two different game boards, one with one-step equations and another with two-step

equations. I wanted a majority of the students to at least finish one game. veryone in

mod ! finished at least one game and most finished two, and all but one group in mod "

was able to finish one round.

I had the students show their work because that#s the only way they could really

evaluate whether or not they truly understood solving equations. Their work may have

been a little off from the format that it#s supposed to be, but they show the work in their

own way. They showed their work in a way they would understand so metacognition

    was observed.

I noticed that I should#ve made sure that all the students knew how to play Tic-

Tac-Toe before I handed them the game. There was some confusion as to how Tic-Tac-

Toe was related to solving equations and how Tic-Tac-Toe was played.

I also think that it may have been more engaging and interactive if the class

played against each other. $ne half of the classroom can compete against the other

and I would keep track of the game board on the projector. very student on side that is

solving will complete the problem and work together to find the answer. very student

will have to present the answer and their work to the class even though they can work

    together.

I also had the chance to hand out an exit ticket for the student to complete. %any

of the students did fairly well on the exit ticket. $verall, the lesson went well and the

    students had fun.

This lesson demonstrated InT&'( ) because I created an activity that helped

students develop cognitively and socially. They had to work with other students and

compete in a friendly manner to solve equations. The students had to communicate to

each other effectively to demonstrate what they know or didn#t know about the topic.
