Two nights and three days at Fernwood Resort Campground, in northern Big Sur

The campsite was small – barely enough room for our (large) tent, the picnic table, and our van; but we had a fabulous view of the river, and we were right at the end of one arm of the campground, so no traffic.

Great Campsite!

What we saw looking out of our tent

The kids played hide and seek in the burned out centers

Hiking along the trails of the campground: Beautiful sights to see, but what we heard the most of was, “I’m tired, when are we going back?”!

Elephant Seals at San Simeon

On our way home, we stopped at San Simeon State Beach to see the Elephant Seals. At up to 5000 pounds and 15 ft. long, the battling males were quite impressive!

For our first official “tent and sleeping bag” camping trip, we had a blast! The weather was great, the campsite nice, the surroundings beautiful, our kids got to play with the kids in the campsite next to us, and everyone slept.
