Two cancer diagnoses were not going to stop Sharon Lee Parker, an efferves- cent, self-proclaimed life lover, mother, and grandmother from Florida. Deter- mined to fight the disease that threatened her life, a quest began that would lead to a partnership between patient and doctor like no other. Four years ago, Sharon was feeling under the weather. Her family physician told her she had allergies and prescribed Allegra. Having never suffered allergies before, she knew there was more to it. Sadly, she was right. Further testing revealed that Sharon had Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Shortly thereafter, Sharon learned she also had thyroid cancer. Devastated but ready to fight for her life with the support of family and friends, Sharon embarked on a journey and headed to New York for more opinions. The advice of many top oncologists brought her to Andre Goy, M.D., an attending physician at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston at the time of her diagnosis. In her book, “Look Out Cancer Here I Come!” Sharon says, “I know that I am here today, still on the road of life, because of Dr. Andre Goy. If I had to have cancer, God must have picked this brilliant oncologist and researcher to lead the team that would eradicate the lymphoma from my body.” When Dr. Goy was recruited to The Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center, Sharon followed. Dr. Goy says, “Sharon’s outgoing personality and compassion came through while she was undergoing treatment. In our waiting room, we observed her warmth and caring toward other patients. In medicine we call it the ‘human equation’.” Now the founding director of the Life Lover™ Foundation, a philanthropic organization devoted to funding molecular research, Sharon continues to fight. A memoir of her own experience and two rap songs later, this very spirited and inspirational survivor has come out a winner. Sharon’s journey has come full circle. She now spends all of her time supporting cancer research and coaching other patients. Her compassion and love for life is contagious. You can see it in the faces of the people she helps. Two cancer diagnoses were not going to stop Sharon Lee Parker, an efferves-

cent, self-proclaimed life lover, mother, and grandmother from Florida. Deter-

mined to fight the disease that threatened her life, a quest began that would

lead to a partnership between patient and doctor like no other.

Four years ago, Sharon was feeling under the weather. Her family physician told her she had allergies and

prescribed Allegra. Having never suffered allergies before, she knew there was more to it. Sadly, she was right.

Further testing revealed that Sharon had Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Shortly thereafter, Sharon learned she also had

thyroid cancer. Devastated but ready to fight for her life with the support of family and friends, Sharon embarked

on a journey and headed to New York for more opinions. The advice of many top oncologists brought her to Andre

Goy, M.D., an attending physician at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston at the time of her diagnosis.

In her book, “Look Out Cancer Here I Come!” Sharon says, “I know that I am here today, still on the road of

life, because of Dr. Andre Goy. If I had to have cancer, God must have picked this brilliant oncologist and

researcher to lead the team that would eradicate the lymphoma from my body.”

When Dr.

In medicine we call it the ‘human

equation’.”

Now the founding director of the Life Lover™ Foundation, a philanthropic organization devoted to funding

molecular research, Sharon continues to fight. A memoir of her own experience and two rap songs later, this

very spirited and inspirational survivor has come out a winner. Sharon’s journey has come full circle. She now

spends all of her time supporting cancer research and coaching other patients. Her compassion and love for

life is contagious. You can see it in the faces of the people she helps.

“This is an exciting time to be an oncologist because we have more novel treatment

options than we’ve ever had before. I also believe every patient is a crucial part

of the team in his or her healing process. We must embark on this journey together –

from discovery of the disease to its cure.” – ANDRE GOY, M.D.
