Summer Camp Counselor Job Description

About Two Bridges: Two Bridges Neighborhood Council has been dedicated to serving the many neighborhoods of Manhattan's Lower East Side since 1955. We create equitable housing, celebrate cultural diversity through neighborhood-based programs, and work together with local residents, businesses, entrepreneurs, and leaders to stimulate and maintain economic vitality. Two Bridges operates community programs focusing on health & wellness, arts & culture, and science education in the Community Room of Two Bridges Tower, 82 Rutgers Slip. As part of these programs, TBNC offers after-school and summer camp STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) educational programming with an emphasis on local issues of sustainability and design. Community programs in the Two Bridges Tower primarily serve building residents, but are open to residents of the neighboring Two Bridges Senior Residence (80 Rutgers Slip) and the residents of 265-275 Cherry Street.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Supervising campers

Ensuring safety of campers during field trips and off-site visits

Assisting and implementing planned activities in STEM, literacy, art and physical enrichment activities

Working as part of a team to carry out curriculum activities

Participating in staff meetings, orientation and training opportunities

Requirements: HS Degree or Equivalent

Experience working with children in camp, after-school or school environment

Must be punctual, dependable, enthusiastic, energetic, have a sense of humor, and strong communication skills

Be sensitive to the needs of students from different cultures and learning styles

Be outgoing, able to accept direction, work independently and with a team

Available July 14th-August 14th; Monday- Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

Preferred: Interest in STEM, literacy and/or the arts

Proficiency in speaking/writing Spanish, Mandarin, or Chinese

College degree *All summer camp staff must be fingerprinted and proven free of any criminal convictions before being hired. A current physical and TB test are also required.
