Two and a Half Piano Park is a temporary summertime urban space designed to accommodate two upright pianos and one child’s grand piano. These pianos are available for those of any skill level, young or old who wish to play and those who wish to gather and listen. Two and a Half Piano Park is a quiet alcove that evokes the physical essence of a piano. The space is designed with bold furnishings and details that suggest the familiar arrangement of piano keys and the rhythmic pattern of music.

The north piano room is dominated by a series of brightly multi-colored benches aligned on a banded pattern of synthetic grass that together suggest the layout of piano keys. Benches suggest the black keys and the synthetic lawn strips suggest the white keys.

A fl ush deck will allow universal accessibility to the south room providing ample space for seated dining, yoga, and dancing.

Sono tube signage will announce and promote Duelling Pianos event information, possible organized performances and contribute to way fi nding as well as provide an additional element of visibility, colour, and scale.

A child’s sized piano and possibly other instruments will encourage children to participate in the overall experience. A colourful Pea-nuts banner of Lucy and Schroeder will illustrate the ageless admiration we all have for great composers of music.

Music related imagery and artwork upon the skytrain columns will improve their aesthetic and add color and human scale to the space.

Conservative plantings will reduce the infl uence of the overhead skytrain structure, reinforce the park perimeter, and establish a more comfortable human scale.
