Formenta was founded in 1972 by Olov and Inga Nyholm. Together they built the factory

in Sweden from the ground up and specialized in manufacturing of components in

fiberglass reinforced polyester. Today Formenta is enjoying over 40 years of experience in

the field.

Throughout the years, Formenta has geared its product line towards public environments

and has also become the world’s largest manufacturer of fiberglass flagpoles.

Today, Formentas products include flagpoles, lighting columns, bike stands, planters and

sand containers. Formenta has production facilities in Sweden, Hungary and Denmark with

sales offices in Holland and Brazil.

Formenta’s lighting columns are made from composite, a maintenance-free material

enabling a combination of light weight and extreme strength. The lighting columns are

developed and produced at our factory in Sweden through close cooperation with product

developers and electric engineers. The goal throughout the development was to produce an

aesthetically attractive lighting column enhancing the look and feel of public outdoor

environments with minimal environmental impact.

Formenta’s standard lighting columns come in heigths of 3m, 4m,

5m and 6m. The lighting columns are conical and the gelcoat

shaft is shipped in any RAL-colour. This allows us to offer lighting

columns in 200 different colours. The door was developed to

withstand stress and impact in any public environment. Optional lock

is available when needed.

With Formenta’s Swedish-made lighting columns weight is reduced by

70% compared to traditional steel-made lighting columns. Formenta’s

lighting column is also maintenance-free and does not rust. It is also non-

conductive which is, from a safety standpoint, advantageous in public

environments.

GREAT ENVIRONMENTAL ADVANTAGES

Environmental benefits with Formenta’s productionThe production of Formenta’s lighting columns is done without water discharges, an important difference compared to aluminium or steel column production.

The low weight per column, in relation to volume, also brings environmental benefits through the transportation of both raw materials and finished product. Also, only a fraction of the power consumed when producing aluminium or steel products is used in polyester product manufacturing.

Formenta’s energy consumption has been greatly reduced the past few years, and the largest power source comes from bioenergy. At the same time our electricity consumption has been reduced by one third, despite the fact that our production volume has increased. The electricity used in Formenta’s production come from environmentally friendly water or wind power.

RecyclingThe recycling of Formenta’s lighting columns is done through milling of rest material, which is then sent to a pre-approved recycling plant. Production overspill and waste has, over the past five years, been reduced in relation to our production volume. Waste is also used as fillers.

Environmental ImpactFormenta’s lighting columns of high-quality polyester material are inert, which means emissions of polluting nature to surrounding air, ground- and water systems are next to none. This can be compared to steel and aluminium production where constant polluting emissions are unavoidable, especially heavy metals.
