Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life. This mission inspired the theme of this year’s conference, “The Heart of One”. As healthcare providers, we put our hearts and minds together as ONE to improve patient outcomes and deliver compassionate care to every patient we serve.

Our conference goals are to:

• promote the professional nursing practice to drive shared governance and leadership;

• disseminate evidence based nursing practice driven by nursing research; and

• reveal innovative ideas to enhance nursing satisfaction and improve patient care outcomes.

This symposium will allow the registered nurse to incorporate current evidence in obstetrics, neonatology, women’s health, and our professional practice, enabling the nurse to anticipate the needs of this specialized area of practice, and thereby improving the care, services and outcomesfor this population. We welcome everyone here and hope you have a wonderful experience these next two days as you learn, network and share. Each one of you play a huge role in the health and wellbeing of our maternal and neonatal patients and we thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to the healthcare profession. Never underestimate the diff erence each and every one of you make in the care and improvement of human life!

High Reliability Organization (HRO) is one which experiences fewer errors despite an inherently risky environment. Using the concepts of HRO, a panel of experts will explore the intricacies of a complex case study of a pregnant 17-yr-old accident victim with a Traumatic Brain Injury.

This powerful presentation will explore:• the power of one: each nurse as a caregiver and system improver

planning for the unexpected;

• the power of one team: a multidisciplinary approach of daily excellence, communication, respect, and collaboration that contributed to a great neonatal outcome.
