THEY say Twitter is all about mean-

ingless posts about what you had for

lunch. Try telling that to the social

media influencers behind Twestival KL.

Since it was first held in 2009, the annu-

al gathering of Twitterers (which is part of

the global Twestival movement) has been

raising funds for good causes using the

power of social media.

This year, the proceeds from Twestival

KL will benefit local non-profit and non-

governmental organisation Persatuan

Kanak-Kanak Istimewa Hulu Langat

(PKKI), which focuses on helping special

needs children.

“PKKI Hulu Langat currently serves as

a drop-in centre for over 90 youths with

special needs and are raising funds to

build a one-stop centre.

“The Twestival KL team hopes to con-

tribute what we can so the organisation

can continue doing its good work,” said

co-organiser Niki Cheong.

The Twestival will be held at The Bee,

Publika from 2pm to 6pm on Dec 7. On

top of the star-studded list of celebrity

guests, attendees can also meet the social

media personalities that are part of the

event’s organising committee including

David Lian, Suanie Tew, Fiona Jitab, Jason

Lioh and Chee Ching.

To raise even more funds, sponsored

items from brands like Malaysia

Airlines, Nike and The Majestic

KL will also be auctioned off.

The items will be posted on

www.testivalkl.com for public

bidding and the auctions will

close on the day of Twestival.

“Besides wanting to raise as

much funds from the entry fee,

MDeC (Multimedia Development

Corporation) has pledged to match

our fundraising amount up to

RM10,000,” said Cheong.
