This “gift” grants us a power that was not possible a couple decades ago. That power is deciding whether or not we pick up the phone or let the machine or voicemail pick up the call. If we are honest about it there are times that we could pick up, but we use our power to say no. But are we really aware of “who” is calling? Imagine for a moment that you are sitting at home, the phone rings, you look at it and the name that shows on the screen is “Jesus of Nazareth”. Would you take the call? Or press, or slide, the call to voicemail? After being shocked that Jesus was calling us, I believe that many of us would pick up and find out what Jesus would have to say to us, or even ask us. Think about it for a minute…Jesus is calling you…that would be amazing wouldn’t it be? I can imagine my pulse quickening with excitement as I prepared to speak with Jesus. I would probably be a little nervous as I said, “hello”. But I am sure that the nervousness would dissipate when I heard Jesus say my name. I know for certain that he would have all of my attention while we spoke, I wouldn’t try and half listen to Jesus and watch the game or do laundry. I bet he would have all of your attention too, right? I mean how awesome is this? The Son of God is calling! Before there was Caller ID or even phones, Jesus was making calls. When the fisherman heard Jesus calling, they dropped everything and followed him. When each of the disciples heard Jesus voice calling them, they left all that was familiar and comfortable and followed him. When Jesus calls, people respond, and beautiful things happen, don’t they? So, if I were to ask you if you had silenced a call from Jesus lately, what would you say? I don’t mean when Jesus called you into ministry through a spiritual affirmation, or in a time of prayer, or through an experience. I mean when did Jesus last call you on the phone (or even through an email)? Many times Jesus calls us, but the Caller ID does not show Jesus’ name. Maybe the name on the phone is a person from your church, maybe it’s a colleague, maybe it’s a pastor, or maybe it’s a member of the Emmaus Community. What if we have sent Jesus to voicemail, because we didn’t take the time to think, “Bjorn is calling me, because Christ has led him to call. I wonder what Jesus needs?” I wonder what would happen if we prayerfully looked at every call or email that way…the name maybe be different, but it may just be Jesus calling. A Note from the Registrar Committee

Wersquore so excited The fall 2015 Walks are finally here and wersquove attached the

list of pilgrims and team for Walks 95 amp 96 who are coveting your prayers

We are excited to see what the Lord has in store for these upcoming weekends

Sponsors know they are to have their pilgrims at the Family Resource Camp

by 7 pm Thursday night for ldquoSend Offrdquo But ldquoSend Offrdquo isnrsquot just for sponsors

and their pilgrims The Community is encouraged to attend as well because

we all serve as ldquoteam membersrdquo even though we may not be staying at the

camp

If you have not done so already please go to the trweorg website and sign up

for the prayer vigil 4th day service snack agape Candlelight and Closing

FYI- Many sponsors have asked this time ldquoWhy do I need to get the pilgrimrsquos

Pastorrsquos name address telephone number and signature on the applicationrdquo

The reason is two-fold the purpose of the Walk to Emmaus is to build church

leaders If someone doesnrsquot belong to a church they have no support system

to go back to in the ldquo4th Daysrdquo or a place to build their leadership The Pastorrsquos

signature is confirming that this pilgrim attends their church The other

reason is the Head Spiritual Director of each Walk is to contact the Pastors as

an outreach after the Walks to answer any questions they may have about the

Walk to Emmaus weekend Hope this helps

JAY NEWPORT SHARES HIS PASSIONhellip

When I did my Walk to Emmaus 53 back in 2005 I left knowing God was calling me to something

different in my life but I needed time in prayer to find out where he was leading me After some

prayer time and some prodding from Bill Korbel I found that God wanted me to become involved in

the Kairos Prison ministry

I think the first thing that drew me to the Kairos Prison Ministry was its mission which is to share

the transforming love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ to impact the hearts and lives of

incarcerated men women and youth as well as their families to become loving and productive

citizens of their communities The second was the ecumenical nature of the ministry The Kairos

teams are made up of folks from many denominations from Baptist to Anglican to Methodist and

several others as well While everyone may practice different worships styles all the denominational

differences are left at the door and give way to a singular focus on the love and forgiveness of

Jesus Christ

I have been involved in the Kairos Prison Ministry for almost 9 years now but I must say that when I

first started I was very apprehensive I canrsquot say that I feared for my safety but I worried about

the inmates I would work with and how I would relate to them After all they are all criminals that

committed in some cases horrific crimes What could I possibly have in common with them You see

I had already judged these men before I ever stepped into the prison because of the crimes or sins

they had committed

What I found was completely different I found people just like me seeking forgiveness from their

friends families and most importantly from God They were seeking the same forgiveness from God

that I seek in my own life every single day So I had to ask myself how was that any different than

what we are all seeking in our relationships with God We all live a life of sin and I found it wasnrsquot my

job to judge them God had called me to be the face of Jesus to these men and let them know that

He was there to forgive them

You see not only did God find a way to use me in a place I would have never imagined going but he

also used the opportunity to begin teaching me more about forgiveness and the importance of not

judging others so quickly God sends us into the prison to serve the residents but I have found that

I learn and grow as much as they do each and every weekend

I have attached a short 3 minute video of a Kairos graduate giving his testimony of how God used

Kairos to change his life It is a wonderful story of the power of Godrsquos forgiveness that is available

to every one of us

FALL 2015 WALKS
