MONSIGNOR WOY’S MESSAGE FOR THE WEEK
TOP THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS WEEK:
Dear Friends,
Lots of life and energy returned to campus this past Tuesday when the School of the Cathedral opened its doors for a new
academic year. The parish is blessed to have a Catholic school as
part of its mission, and the school is blessed by the families whose
children attend the school. Of course, a school’s faculty is key to its
ultimate success. This year, middle school teacher Lauren
Schmitt has been recognized by the Archdiocesan Department of
Schools as “Teacher of the Year at the School of the
Cathedral.” Lauren teaches religion and English Language Arts and is a favorite of the students. Congratulations, Lauren, and thank you
for all you do for the students at SCMOQ.
This weekend we welcome a new learning team from St.
Mary’s Seminary. Deacon Jonathan Kuhar is from the diocese
of Scranton and is a practicing attorney. José Carvajal is a native of
Colombia and is studying for the diocese of Worcester. In his
former life, José was a school principal. And we welcome back
David Wang, a native of China, who spent the summer with us as
he prepared to enter his first year of theological studies. Please give
Jonathan, José, and David a warm welcome to our Cathedral family.
Next Saturday, September 14 is the 7th Annual Haiti Carnavale
in support of our sister parish of St. Charles Borromeo Cathedral in
Gonaives, Haiti. This event is one of the nicest events of the year,
with plenty of family fun in support of a very worthy cause. Please
go to our webpage for details and registration.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word CLOW returns next Sunday at the 9:30 Mass. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to

Cathy and Brigid – they would like a Sunday off once in a while! If
interested, contact them via email. It will be great to see the kids
running down the aisle again!
