80th Annual Fall Seminar for Women

Grand Rapids Diocesan Council of Catholic Women’s 80th Annual Fall Seminar, “Catholic Strong”, will be held Saturday, Oct. 19th at St. Mary’s Parish Hall in Marne. Hospitality begins at 8:30 am, program runs from 9 am to 3 pm with lunch. To register: Email [email protected] or online at http://bit.ly/GRDCCWFallSem19. Cost is $20. Deadline to register is October 11th.

Holy Family Radio 1140 on your AM dial. Great programming, lots to learn and a way to grow in your faith.

Faith Formation Information Classes resume September 11, 2019.

You’re Invited! Families will begin the first evening in the church for a

Prayer Service. Following that, parents are asked to walk their children to their classrooms for a meet and greet

with the catechists. Parents with more than one child are asked to begin in the youngest child’s classroom and then move to other rooms to meet each child’s catechist. This allows the children to adjust to a new room and catechist

and give the parents and catechist a chance to meet. If you have not received your registration information it

is available in the Gathering Area.

Classes will be offered during the 9 & 11 a.m. Masses for children ages 3-8 beginning on Sunday, September 15th. Children attending have the amazing opportunity to break open the Word and explore it in age-friendly language. No registration necessary. Fr. Peter will dismiss children prior to the Liturgy of the Word; children will be led to class-rooms in the Family Center and return to parents prior to Communion.

We know that God has loved us since the moment of our conception. During the Rite of Baptism we embrace that

love. We would like to thank the parents and Godparents of the children Baptized for allowing us as a faith community to reflect on our own Baptismal promises and to offer our support to these children in their journey of discipleship.

Please welcome into our faith family:

Fenn Ronan David Wiejaczka

&

Our Annual Fall Clothing Drive benefiting St. Andrew’s Outreach Center, will be September 28/29. Please bring your gently used clothing to the stage after September 22.

+++ We have a parishioner who is in need of a little help cleaning around the house . Please contact Ruth in the office if you would like to help.

+++ 40 Days for Life is a grassroots, pro-life effort that consists of 40 days of praying, fasting, and holding a peaceful vigil in front of an abortion clinic. St Mary Magdalen has adopted Tuesday October 1. For more information or to sign up, contact Pam Kosten at 616-481-8285 or 616-656-4453 or visit www.40daysforlife.com/GrandRapids

+++ Join us outside under the tent on Oct. 5 for Oktoberfest. We will have German potato salad, red cabbage, spaetzli, sauerkraut, and kielbasa, plus possibly a couple of extra surprises. Tickets are $15 for high school and up, $5 for middle school students and below. Please purchase tickets early so we can plan on having enough food. Tickets prices will go up at the door.

+++ Coffee and Donuts will begin on September 15 and I am

looking for help from individuals or families to cover the 9 & 11 a.m. Masses. If you feel called to be a part of the coffee/donut crew and would like to help one weekend a month, contact Ruth in the Office.

+++ Every Wednesday night since the first of May, 20 golfers gathered at Briarwood Golf Course to play golf. There were many great shots and many not so great shots. Balls went in the pond and ball were lost in the woods. The weather was good all season, and only 1 night was missed. On August 21 they played for the league championship. Congratulation to Jerry Bush and Nick Weber who are this year ’s champions.

+++ Faith Formation begins this coming Wednesday. For those who like to bring a dessert please do not bring anything containing nuts. We have someone who has a severe allergy to peanuts. It is best not to bring anything containing nuts of any kind. Thank you for understanding.

+++ Jesus tells the crowd that only those who renounce all of their possessions can be His disciples. Is He truly asking us to give up everything? Perhaps instead He is trying to help us see that everything we think we own is really a gift from God. Good stewards know that and strive to use those gifts accountably.

There is still time to join all music

groups.

Thank you:

Thank you to Father Peter and all the St. Mary Magdalen staff for the wonderful funeral service for our dad, Bernie Bucek. From the service to the luncheon, everything was beautifully done, and we had many friends and relatives remark how they loved it.

Much gratitude, Jeff Bucek, Melanie and Matt Potter, Maria and Randy Orr and families

Thank You St. Mary Magdalen Parish! With your generosity we were able to collect over 1200 school supplies items and donate them to Kentwood Public Schools. Your continued support is greatly appreciated for all of our supplies drives. These school items will go a long way in giving the less fortunate in our community a chance to have all they need to have a successful school year. Thank you again and God Bless!
