VIGÉSIMO PRIMER DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO 26 DE AGOSTO DEL 2018

Principles for God-Centered Family Living

Prayer Life A personal relationship with God is foundational to the spiritual life and is fostered through prayer. The Catechism of Catholic Church teaches that prayer is the raising of one’s mind and heart to God or the requesting of good things from Him. It is the habit of being in the presence of God and in communion with Him—a living relationship with the Holy Trinity. It is essential, therefore, to make time for prayer every day, both on your own and as a family. PERSONAL PRAYER Everyone, regardless of age, should form good habits of prayer by uniting their hearts and mind to God through interior dialog. It is important for parents to help their children in developing their own personal prayer life. Here are some specific prayer practices to help you in living this principle. Morning Offering Upon waking, offer your day to the Holy Family in order that you may live your day for God. Prayer & Spiritual Reading Time Set aside time for an appointment with God. Communicate with Him through prayers of praise, thanksgiving, repentance and petition. Reflectively read Scripture and other spiritual books. Allow some quiet time to listen to God. Consider writing down insights that you receive during this time so that you can review them periodically. Aspirations & Spiritual Communication These are short phrases of faith, hope and love that you can pray as you go about your day. They are very helpful in maintaining an awareness of God’s continual presence. For example, “Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I give you my heart” or “Jesus, I trust in You.” Nightly Reflections and Thanksgiving Before retiring at night, spend a few moments in thanksgiving for the blessings that God has given you throughout your day. Reflect on your day as to how well you loved God, your family, and others. Offer an act of contrition for any ways in which you may have fallen short. It is also a traditional practice to ask you Guardian Angel to watch over you as you sleep. FAMILY PRAYER Family prayer is essential to forming a strong, loving family. Although it may be awkward at first, family prayer is one of the most important ways in which parents can pass on the faith to their children and give them an example of putting God first in life. Meal-Time Prayer Thank God for providing the food that will nourish your body and satisfy hunger, and perhaps prayer for those in need. Rosary This is one of the most important prayers next to Holy Mass! It is extremely powerful for protecting your family and establishing peace in your home and in the world. Persevere in praying a 5-decade Rosary every day, or as much of it as you can, while reflecting on its mysteries. Spontaneous Prayers These are prayers from the heart that can be offered at meal time, before the Rosary or some oth-er time. They can be prayers of praise, thanksgiving or petition. Eucharistic Visits/Adoration Jesus is waiting in the Tabernacle for us—to receive our love an to shower His graces upon on. Even if only for a few minutes, look for opportunities to visit Jesus in the Eucharist. Liturgical Season Prayers & Devotions Feast days of saints and the liturgical seasons of the Church can be observed in the home, for example, with special celebrations, by the use of an Advent wreath and prayers, Lenten practices, etc.

Sacramental Life The Sacraments of the Church are tremendous gifts of grace that spiritually nourish, fortify and guide us. Receiv-ing the Sacraments regularly is the utmost importance to living a God-centered life. HOLY MASS/COMMUNION We are blessed as Catholics to be able to receive Jesus’ Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the Eucharist. Make a special effort to stay focused on Jesus during Mass. What could be more important than this awesome mystery that gives us divine life! CONFESSION In order to keep our hearts and souls in good order and to enable us to receive Jesus more worthily in the Eucharist, the Church recommends that we receive the Sacrament of Confession regularly. For those seek-ing to grow in holiness, the practice of monthly confession, when possible, is commended. In addition to the Sacraments, sacramental provide extra protection, dispose us for special graces, and can be visible signs of our faith and consecration. • Holy Water • Sacred Images • Miraculous Medal • Crucifix • Brown Scapular
