Praying for Our Youth and Young Adults Two weeks ago, our parish seminarian Nick Fleming (son of Tom and Mary Fleming) gave an inspiring and challenging presentation at Mass on ways that we as a parish can better promote vocations to the priesthood. In addition to Nick, we are blessed to have Joel Seipp (son of Larry and Shirley Seipp) from our own parish of St. Clare as seminarians for our diocese. But as I mentioned at Mass that weekend, a parish of our size and youthfulness should be able to ‘produce’ even more priesthood vocations. Wouldn’t it be great to have 5 seminarians from St. Clare? We have several young men that I see as strong candidates and I’m doing my part to encourage them to ‘keep the door open’ to God calling them to the priesthood. I am confident that you also will en-courage and invite young men in your family or in the pew next to you to think about being a priest. Speaking of seminarians, our parish was asked to be a home and host to our diocesan seminarian Anthony Hyginus for the months of August-December this year. As we get closer to his arrival I will know more about and share with you how he will be involved around the parish and school. He will live in the rectory with me as I serve as a bit of a mentor for him. Consider sending a note (and/or gift) of support to our own St. Clare seminarians whose summer addresses are below: Nick Fleming Vocation Office 2620 Lebanon Avenue Belleville, IL 62221 Joel Seipp St. Mary Parish 1550 Main St Mt Vernon, IL 62864 Thanks for joining me in daily prayers for ALL of our young men and women to listen to God’s quiet voice calling them to serve in some faithful way in our Church. Peace, Fr. Jim Deiters

Voca on Corner “I was blessed to attend strong catholic parishes and entered the Academy of Fine Arts to study painting, which was a dream come true. Still nothing in my life satisfied me completely. I wanted to grow closer to God and I felt the call to give my all to Christ. However, I was terrified with the idea of leaving my family and my dreams, painting, dancing and chil-dren. Then a moment came in prayer when deep in my heart I simply said to God, “OK, I will do it”. Suddenly, a peace entered my life like I never experienced be-fore. I never knew such peace existed. I completed my school

studies and soon went to the convent with my suitcase.” L Sister Gaudia Skass, Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy, Krakow Poland, Columbia, May 2016, pg. 42

Sacramental Preparation: Children wishing to receive 1st Communion and 1st Reconciliation or Confirmation during the upcoming school year must be attending weekend Masses in our parish and be students in St. Clare School, the Parish School of Religion or an approved home school program. Students typically receive First Communion in 2nd grade after having faith formation in 1st & 2nd grade. Confirma-

tion is a two year program for students, typically beginning in 7th grade with Confirmation near the end of 8th grade. For any of these sacraments, they also will need to participate in the parish’s sacramental preparation program, and parents or guardians must attend a parent meet-ing for that sacrament and register their children for that sacrament (in addition to PSR or school registration). If your child is a little behind on preparing for a sacrament, contact Jane Dotson, Director of Family Faith Formation at [email protected] or the parish office at 632-3562.
