1. Overview Twain Importer is a virtual TWAIN driver allowing use any TWAIN compliant application with MFP
devices. Follow various MFPs architectures and capabilities Twain Importer provides flexible integration
functionality that allows to connect MFPs from almost any manufacturer to any TWAIN compliant
application.
2. TWAIN Importer with any MFP device TWAIN Importer provides generic support to any MFP devices that allows scanning to network a share
or to FTP server.
3. TWAIN Importer with Xerox MFP devices Twain Importer has natural support for Xerox MFPs providing great user experience. With Xerox devices
users can create scan jobs directly1 from an application user interface and receive images into this
application with one-button click. Twain importer supports two modes for Xerox MFP: Active Mode and
Passive mode. Both modes have functionality automatically stop scanning when the last document
imported from MFP. But Active Mode also allows making all configurations from user’s application and

uploads profile automatically. In passive mode user has to make configuration from MFP’s
administration user interface or from MFP directly or administrator can setup predefined profile
(proffered). In sections below detailed instructions for different modes will be provided.
3.1 Xerox MFP Active Mode
This section describes usage instructions for your EIP enabled Xerox MFP device. Instructions assume
that MFP device was prepared by system administrator. Please see section “Xerox MFP – Preparation
instructions” for the information about preparation.
1. Select TWAIN Importer
Select ScanWorks MFP Twain Importer as TWAIN source in your application.
2. Configure scan settings.
Set correct MFP IP address and configure scan parameters: color mode, paper source etc.
To verify MFP IP Address press “Check connection” and Twain Importer will verify that Xerox
MFP device is available and EIP is enabled. Check connection functionality will create and delete
user scan template on Xerox MFP device. The message box will be shown if any error occurs.
Please contact your system administrator to check a MFP IP address and EIP is enabled. More
information about EIP can be found later in this document.

3. Scanning
When you ready to scan press scan button on Twain Importer dialog and go to your MFP. Login
to the device if required and select a template that was automatically created on this device by
TWAIN Importer. Template name is your user login name. So if login name is “JohnS” then scan
template will be “JohnS”.
You can find information about template name on “Information” tab in TWAIN Importer

Next steps:
1) Load document(s) into Document Handler (ADF or Flatbed)
2) Touch “Services” button on the control panel of MFP
3) Touch “Network Scanning” icon
4) Select appropriate template on the Touch Screen.
5) Press Scan button on Control Panel

4. Complete scanning
You don’t need do any extra work like configuring MFP device. Your documents will be directly
scanned into your application. So you can go back to the PC and find that all documents are
already in application.
Note: User can be asked to enter password for TWAIN Importer when try to scan. Default
password is “123” although user can always change it.
3.2 Xerox MFP Passive Mode
If your Xerox MFP does not support EIP functionality it still can be used with TWAIN Importer. Below you
will find detailed instructions that will allow receiving very similar experience to Active Mode.
1. Create template on MFP device
Your MFP may support templates that can be created by administrator on MFP device. Log in
MFP device as administrator and create scan template to scan directly to your computer using
FTP functionality. You can find all necessary parameters values for FTP settings on “Information”
tab. Following parameters will be required:
1) Computer name
2) FTP port (default 888)
3) Login (default sw)
4) Password (default 123)
Note: We recommend using computer name instead of IP address when you configure scan
template because IP address can be different next time you reboot your PC.
Steps for creating scan template on Xerox WorkCentre 7132 (this device does not support EIP).
You have to have administrative rights to do this configuration.

1) Open web browser and navigate to your MFP device IP address.
2) Click on Print/Scan tab and press button “Display Job Template Screen”. You will be
requested to enter Login and Password.
3) Press button “Create New” to create new scan profile

4) Use appropriate template name to clearly identify your scan profile. We recommend using
network login name as template name. For example: “JohnS”. Template name should not be
long because this name will be shown on MFP screen. You can use “Information” tab in
TWAIN Importer to setup FTP.

Select following settings:
Protocol: FTP
Server name: <name of your computer which is shown in TWAIN Importer>
Port number: 888
User name: sw
5) Configure scanning settings like: Scanning color, Resolution etc. Please keep in mind that
current version of TWAIN Importer does not support PDF format and you have to scan
either to TIFF or to JPEG.

2. Select TWAIN Importer driver in your scanning application
3. Press button “Scan”
4. Go to MFP device and select template created on the first step
3.3 Xerox MFP Preparation instructions
Before MFP device will be used with Twain Importer it has to be prepared by administrator. Twain
Importer requires FTP Client support for any mode: Active or Passive. Also for Active mode device has to

be configured to support EIP because this functionality is disabled by default. Please contact to either
Xerox or ScanWorks to get more details.
